Anybody that questions Barnhart hasn't looked at the ENTIRE Kentucky athletic program. He's done a great job and kept it clean. Barnhart isn't going anywhere.

BGC had a lot more baggage attached to him than Joker does. I could be wrong, I don't see Phillips going anywhere.

Nothing screams top notch program like firing a coach after two seasons. Not very enticing to top tier coaches, either.

 

Unfortunately this is the only reason to keep Joker around. Given that, look at next years schedule.

That is a 5-7 record at the very best and 3-9 most likely. In either case he is a goner. So the question becomes, why wait?

As a coach I will vote no. I just don't think a coach can be properly evaluated in 2 years. Sure Phillips was on the staff but you never know. Laker Coker looked like a HOFer after two years and now look at him. He's a first time HC learning on the job, but its tough to get rid of someone after two years. Biggest down-side to getting rid of him is that I think it makes a tough job even harder to get a good coach.

 

But an offensive savant would have time. Put up points and people give you a pass for a little while longer IMO.

 

As for the bolded I agree. I will also say that he has been on staff and the Offensive play caller under Brooks and accordoing to Brooks he has been a "great recruiter??", the latter scares me more than hm calling plays and is jmo the play calling stinks. I personally don't think that Phillips is a good recruiter or offensive coach. Plus, Mitner and his defense is terrible alon with bad special teams.

Having said that I wiill also have to add that untill the U.K. Administration puts out the major $ DOLLARS for a top tier football coach (and PLEASE no one say that Brooks was a top coach, he was just better than the losers before him)that Joker is about all they can get, possibly a little better maybe.

 

We have to face facts.....NO top/established ncaa football coach is going to come to U.K. unless some BIG $$ thrown his way like there is to the bsketball program. The admin would also have to go along and make any and all improvements/changes/additions that a top head coach would want. U.K. has some very good facilities but they are obviously not at the level of an elite program like is all over the SEC.

Untill that kind of commitmen is made the may as well keep Joker Phillips, no one has or wil win here. just sit back, be happy with beating the in state schools and if the ooc schedule is weak enough then mybe qualify for a losers/Ms. Congeniality" bowl every now and then.

BTW.....I didn't vote bc ofsome of the things that I menioned in post 36. it doesn't matter who the coach is.

Go after Boise St Head Coach, he does more with less than Joker does with good talent, granted Boise dont play SEC every game, but they do beat SEC teams or Big 12 teams when they do play.

 

I am also a big fan of Mike Leech, he has a great offense and will bring in guys who can play that type of ball. get rid of every UK coach except for the D-Cord,

I would fire Joker, but I just hope that Mike Leach doesn't come back there. I love Mike Leach as a coach and would cheer for him at any school except UK. I just can't cheer for them.

 

But as far as Joker goes, They need to fire him right after the season. He has set that program back a quite a few years and it is going to be tough to get them back on track (pretty much the same situation that Kragthorpe put Louisville through).
