McQuery to Coach Saturday per ESPN - NOT

Featured Replies

I would be willing to bet PSU is willing to take on and even lose any lawsuit over wrongful termination to Paterno because he knowingly knew on some level what had taken place yet never gave Sandusky to the authorities, fired him, etc. You cannot keep that cloud over your head despite what protocol may be. The children in all of this were Willie Santiago from A Few Good Men.

I was referring to the GA if he were fired even though (if) he followed policy. It's a real mess.

On the grounds of: he was a 28-year old man who witnessed violent sexual abuse of a child and rather than doing anything about it, he left.

You don't follow the "procedures you have put into place" when you see an adult man sexually abusing a child. You do what's right.

What he should've done was beat Sandusky to within an inch of his life, then called the police after he secured the child.

Sorry, not grounds for dismissal. Again, I'm not talking about what's right, I'm talking about employment law.

BTW, I would contribute to his defense fund if he had done it the way you suggest.

Last I checked, Pennsylvania is a closed shop state. However, wouldn't it depend on whether he was a standard versus contract employee?

I would think so.

Kind of confused here. What were the grounds for Paterno's dismissal?

Don't know.

Here's the thing. With all of the allegations there's little doubt that Sandusky is completely innocent. If any of the allegations are true, which at least one likely is, Paterno needed to go because he was in charge of the entire staff. If your staff breaks the law and you are aware of the possibility of the law being broken, you simply can't keep that employee around. Especially, considering the access given to a guy in that position. Paterno had to go.

As for McQuery, you need to be 100% sure that he saw what he saw before you go firing a coach that could continue with his career. Like it or not, justified or not, it made the Board of Trustees job easier knowing that Paterno doesn't have much time left. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, I'm just saying they need to be more cautious with the firing of an assistant than of a guy who should've been done years ago.

Update: Source close to Penn St. football program has informed me McQueary will not coach on Saturday. Announcement later today or Friday.

I posted yesterday about this and said "After this year he is done with football, who would hire him?"

Eyewitness to a Crime involving a child and not reporting is that a felony? If the boy in question was 17, he is still a minor, but 17 compared to 10, thats huge. A neighbor of mine and a friend was found guily of the same thing but was "involved" with this kid (Boy) for several years, he has two daughter and a wife, and is in prison.

I think the reason Joe was fired was a very good one, but Joe has missed games before and has not coached form the sidelines much this season, he actually could be missed, but McQueary was a position coach and there was no one to take his spot, I'm just saying after this game he might be let go as they get time to replace him. Not agreeing with this but its the only reason I could come up with.

Is it fair to the players to not to try to play and win the game? I know you can't compare what has happened to a game, but there is still one be to be played. Let him coach this one then get rid of the 28 year old coward. Who is 38 now.

Actually, not sure about Pennsylvania, but in most states he can be dismissed for good reason, bad reason or no reason at all.

He has to go, IMO.

Acting president says update coming soon on this sitch.

That's why I asked if it was an At Will state. Also, just because you can be dismissed doesn't mean you won't win a claim. I imagine he's under contract and it will quietly be bought out. I agree he has to go. Everyone with the program will be gone when a new coach is brought in is my guess, if not soon after the end of the season. Too many questions would linger about who really knew what.

What I'd like to know is what Sandusky gave/promised him to keep him from talking. The report said Sandusky saw him and knew he was caught - I wonder how that all played out?

I've heard twice that McQueary was a high school teammate and good friend of a son of Sandusky. If that's true it brings up more questions.

That's true. His name is Jon I believe.
