November 10, 201114 yr Because he isn't doing enough to end the lockout. The players have made concessions every step of the way for the owners/Stern and all they ask for is 52.5% of revenue. Down from the 57% they were previously getting. Stern says the players need to take 50% by Wednesday or the deal goes down to 47%? He knows the players aren't going to go below 50% and why the ultimatum. It strikes me that Stern and company are taking an 'our way or no season approach'. Each percentage point represents 80-100 million dollars. The players have sacrificed approximately 500 million dollars to get down to 52.5% and that isn't enough for the owners? Whatever. I bet Stern isn't taking a one dollar salary like Goodell did either. Chump. I never get bothered by contract negotiations as I live it daily. We all make decisions based on our position of strength. If we have it we play hardball. If we do not then we look to get a deal while the offer is still palatable. While both sides need to take their customers into account they cannot negotiate like a fan would. Losing games is not a big deal in the big picture. Plus they know PP92 will return.
November 10, 201114 yr The quality of basketball in the NBA is 10 times what it is in college. That's laughable.I wasn't gonna be the guy who said it. Here's what it comes down to, you have to put the orange orb in the orange ring more than the other guy. I don't care about the fundamentally sound guy on the end of the bench.
November 10, 201114 yr The NBA gets banged on for not being fundamentally sound and playing bad defense. Ironically, most NBA teams play team defense better than anyone. I love watching some of those teams play D.
November 10, 201114 yr In Sterns defense, the NBA gave the players way too much with the 57% in the last deal.
November 10, 201114 yr The quality of basketball in the NBA is 10 times what it is in college. That's laughable. No doubt the NBA has the best basketball players in the world, and they got there becasue they are extremely talented and just know how to play basketball. I think the main reason it seems like alot of people like college basketball better is because it at least seems like to our eyes that is more of a team game. There are plays set up on offense, passing, picks, etc. While in the NBA they are so talented it is a lot of one on one stuff. Also in college you can at least tell that they are trying to play defense. In the NBA I do believe they are trying, it's just that people are so talented offensively that it is hard to tell. So for me I just enjoy watching college basketball because it has more of the things we grew up doing and learning and just seems more like a team game. While the NBA looks more like a bunch of individuals. However for people who love watching the best basketball players in the world there is nothing better than that.
November 10, 201114 yr I'm under the impression Stern represents the owners and the owners interest. They give him the marching orders on what they want and his job is to execute those wishes as best he can. True. For me the makings of a good commissioner is one who has everyone's best interest at heart. Including the fans(customers). He only cares about the owners.
November 10, 201114 yr True. For me the makings of a good commissioner is one who has everyone's best interest at heart. Including the fans(customers). He only cares about the owners. Don't be naive. The commish gets PAID by the owners. He has their best interest at heart. We all would.

November 10, 201114 yr Don't be naive. The commish gets PAID by the owners. He has their best interest at heart. We all would. Yeah, but he acts like he could care less if there is a season. He'll still get paid though so why should he care? That irks me. I already know he could care less about me, the loyal NBA fan, but he could at least fake it or something.
November 10, 201114 yr I haven't missed it one bit, however I would like to be able to watch some of our young former Wildcats, cheer for them and see how they do. I'm with you MJ the NBA lost alot of it's appeal for me when the NBA lost Jordan. Disagree. When MJ was playing we knew he was going to win. Once he left it was wide open. Some of the most compelling basketball was played when MJ came back at 49 and everyone wanted one last shot at the GOAT. It was awesome watching him fail. The All Star game when he and Kobe went back and forth was my favorite All Star game. Wait, I think I just proved your point. Nevermind.
