Really? In your experience what sports ignore conference records in determining the conference champion? Any examples at all? It seems to me that the teams that choose not to play all the 8 other teams in the conference cost themselves the opportunity to claim a share of the title (if dixie and Boone had played one would have been eliminated and one co-champion. by not playing both ended up with 1 less win that the other 3 co-champions (Ryle, Highlands and CCH per their records). Otherwise why not proclaim Beechwood the large school conference champion as they went undefeated in their games against large schools with no losses and they shouldn't be penalized for not playing all of the teams under your theory--same logic just a matter of degree.

 

While I agree with what you are saying, to whom do we blame for not playing the other? Did Dixie refuse to play Boone County or did Boone County refuse to play Dixie?

 

I mean maybe Boone wanted to play but just like this week, Dixie refused to play Boone, so how can you blame Boone for that?

I do not have a dog in the show, but does it really matter who is crowned the Frosh Champion? The fact is these kids get to play 10 games to gain experience and learn how their respective programs operate. What really matters is when they are soph, jr, and sr and they are playing for state championships. In order to not have these conflicts in the future, I might suggest to the high school coaches that they come up with some way to put the teams into divisions and have the winners of each division play at the end of the year if that really matters.

There will be no Ryle v. Boone game. Boone declined the offer to play.

wanttowin, I stand by what I posted and tog's follow up. Because of situations beyond every teams control you are making an apples to oranges argument.

Actually, it seems to me if Boone wins then the winner of the Highlands-CovCath game would be the frosh champion based on their conference records (and how else would you base it with no championship game). For example, if Highlands and Boone win the confere standings would be:

Highlands 7-2

Boone 6-2

Ryle 6-3

CovCath 6-3

Dixie 5-2

 

Obviously reverse Highlands and CCH if CCH wins and if Ryle beats Boone they would be Co-Frosh champions with the winner of the CCH-Highlands game with both having 7-2 records.

 

Or perhaps we could just wait for the AP or coaches polls to come out to tell us who the number 1 team is.....

This season is a wrap without a Frosh Champion for this year no matter how many attempts are made to "create" one on a messageboard.

2. A coin flip was used to decide the odd team out. Ryle lost the coin flip and was the odd team out.

 

3. CCH and Highlands were to play and Dixie and Boone were to play.

 

4. The winner of each of those games would be crowned Co-Champs.

 

5. Almost immediately after all this being set up Dixie decided not to participate in the agreement.

 

6. CCH and Highlands still are going to play (I assume this).

 

7. There was discussion about Ryle and Boone playing but Dixie backing out meant the "playoff" was void so the Ryle/Boone game would have been just another game with no quasi-official co-champ implications so Boone decided not to play.

 

8. In other words, according to Boone, blame Dixie.

 

9. I am just the messenger and repeating verbatim what I was told so if you have anything to add or take away from it by all means let it rip.

If the guru is correct, then that is more reason not to have a freshman championship game.

At this time CovCath is playing Highlands, but I hope both team agree that everyone plays.

I was told the same thing by a Boone Coach

What is the reason for Dixie and Boone not playing? Injuries or something else? Did I miss something in the previous threads?

Just a guess on my part but both Dixie and Boone play only a limited number of kids from their teams while HHS, Ryle and CovCath play a lot of kids. Maybe the kids who play very little, just didn't want anything more to do with playing football!

Boone didn't want any part of Ryle, they won the first time and know that it wouldn't happen the second time.
