Mossakowski 19-67 5TDs

Newton 40-100 1 TD

PASS YARDS

Mossakowski 114-194 1,659yds 9INT 18TD

Newton 74-175 647yds 6INT 6TD

Before you say Newton is in SEC and plays harder competition, remember Newton is playing with better talent, and Mossokowski is playing with community college guys.

Only you would try to make the comparison between playing in the SEC and at a community college.

Is Newton bad? Absolutely, but using Moss's CC stats as trying to prove he would've been better is ridiculous. It completely takes away from what could possibly be legit debate.

I don't care who you put under center for UK, the SEC defenses will have a field day hitting the QB. Mossokowski might be playing with community college guys, but keep in mind he is also playing against community college guys. There is no comparison for LSU's defense at the community college level.

Our middle school quarterback has thrown for 17 touchdowns in four games. Doesn't mean he can at the high school level. Let alone the SEC.

He may be playing agaisnt CC guys, but he was still a 4star recruit who is obviously beating the heck out of CC guys. Joker didnt even let Newton play much of 2nd half, maybe if he had done the same for Moss, he may be here and we would be 3-2 instead of 2-3

It's clear after Saturday that if Moss was still here he would have gotten his chance at least. If Maxwell Smith gets some play already then Mossakowski most def would have. The thing is we can all speculate what would have happened but we will never know for sure, Ryan Mossakowski will go down as one of the biggest enigma's in UK history.

Here's the thing for me. Moss comes in with the shoulder injury, Newton gets some play as a frosh and wins some big games. However, those games were more less won thanks to a decent defense and Cobb and Locke. IMO that is what gave Newton more of a shot than Moss, he had been in those games and won them so everyone assumed he was going to be the guy going forward (once Hartline left). So sadly a couple valuable wins that may have been more thanks to Cobb running the wildcat and Locke running the ball than Newtons play could have costed Mossakowsi his shot.

Great. Moss brings a victory over UL. Awesome......

UK would still go 0-SEC with Moss so it doesn't matter.

A quarterback is only as good as

a.) the playmakers around him

b.) the playcalling (i.e. Tim Couch running the option)

How many of Cobb's big plays last year came out of the Wildcat with no quarterback on the field?

There are NO playmakers around Newton this year. None. The receivers can't catch and when they do get open, Newton cant find them.

We can trot out the middle school quarterback whose been tearing up the middle school league but I dont think things change.

I think this is one reason why you never annoint a non-starter at season's end as the starter the following year. If Joker doesn't make that proclamation after the Pitt game or in the spring, Moss may still be here. I can't blame the kid for leaving. He'll put up some big numbers for SMU or Baylor in the coming years

And that Mossokowski is playing against CC guys.

I am by far a Newton fan but how different would his stats look and better would UK be if the receivers did drop every other pass. Sorry but if Moss was here nothing changes. Receivers are still dropping passes and the O-Line is still awful.

And that Mossokowski is playing against CC guys.

That he has thrown 9 INTs should be a good indicator that he would struggle mightily against SEC defenses.

I hope Mossakowski does well wherever he ends up. I would have liked to see him get a shot on the field at UK to see what he could do, just so we'd have something to go on. But, I'm not the least bit interested in comparing him to Newton at this point.

UK has been bad across the board offensively. Newton has been bad, the line has been bad, the receivers have been bad, the backs have been bad, etc. Certainly better play at any position would make a difference, but saying Mossakowski would have brought that is nothing but speculation. There's no way to know.

I do think our true freshman shows some promise. But, any QB playing with this UK offense against an SEC schedule is going to struggle. That's just the way it is in 2011. I haven't seen anything to indicate there will be a drastic improvement at any position on the field and it will take improvement across the board to make a dent.

That he has thrown 9 INTs should be a good indicator that he would struggle mightily against SEC defenses.

Absolutely. I was thinking the same thing.

The thing with Newton is, HE CAN NOT PASS! Go to a game and watch warmups. He has just as many drops in warmups as he does in the game. The other QBs that are doing warmups do not have these drops. The last home game I watched the QBs/WRs running the long route. 2 QBs made nice passes going 9-10 (5 passes per QB). Newton went 2-5 with his pass looking more like a punt than a pass. And do not say "that was only warmups". You play like you practice. If we are going to live with Newton, then we need to come up with an offense that relies more on the run than the pass.

I'm not sure which thread is better. This one or the thread that said the next election has been rigged .
