Why anyone would have 'respect' or 'lose respect' for a celebrity they never met is strange to me. I have many favorite actors, actresses and athletes that I like and will vigorously defend in a public forum if warranted but if George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon make a united stand against black people I am still going to watch Ocean's 14 and The Bourne Redemption(or whatever the next Bourne movie will be named).

Granted, I'm not going to be seeking their example to make life decisions or anything like that, but I don't find it strange to respect anyone who has worked at any aspect of their life to the point that they are highly regarded for being so good at it. Not to the point to where if they said something I don't agree with or said something stupid that I wouldn't root for them or their team anymore. I liked Mike Vick, the athlete, before the dogs and after the dogs. His off the field actions don't change my feelings for him or any athlete, actor, celebrity, etc.

Okay, I'm with you now. No, I still have no problem with his acting and have no plans to stop seeing movies he is in, but I certainly don't particularly think much of the guy.

I haven't seen anyone say they won't watch Freeman's movies any more, I sure will. I'll also continue to watch documentaries he does because he does an excellent job.

 

Do you respect Obama? Have you ever met him?

 

It's two different worlds. I am speaking on the actor, athlete, celebrty spectrum. I ask them to entertain me. Nothing else. That is as far as their reach to me goes. Obama can affect my life so that is two different worlds.

 

And yes, of course I respect the man I voted for and will vote for again in the next election.

Fastbreak, I'm not supporting or validating Freeman's comments. I'm simply saying that, give his background, I can see where he would believe there is some bigotry behind the Tea Party movement.

You know, I've reflected upon this over night, and to be far more concise than is my nature:

 

Slandering a person or an entire group of people, based upon nothing more than the accused's appearance and the accuser's background, fears and beliefs is precisely the core of true RACISM. For Mr. Freeeman to do this based entirely upon his background, fears and beliefs (without forwarding one tangible objective shred of proof to support his assertion) is exactly the same stuff that RACISM is made of.

 

It matters not whether the accuser is an Academy Award winning actor, a Nobel Peace Prize recipient, or some half-baked, southern redneck sharecropper.

Mr. Freeman is doing exactly what he is accusing the Tea Party of doing.

 

AND for supposedly CREDIBLE journalists to accept and forward his opinion without an objective balance is precisely why many of us believe that true journalism in this country is dead.

I can't think of anything Morgan Freeman's ever done as an actor that I didn't like. I can't see that changing. He's also an interesting interview. I don't happen to agree with him but his honestly answering questions posed to him doesn't upset me.

For the record, I think Morgan Freeman is a fantastic actor. I actually enjoy his work on screen. I have no qualms about seeing more of his work.

 

He is certainly entitled to his opinion and feelings. I am entitled to disagree with him and point out the holes in his argument. :thumb:

Really? Let's look at a similar issue. I feel white men are treated differently (favorably) over white women, or women of any color. Would you agree or disagree? And would you agree or disagree because you knew anything about what it was like to be a woman (of any color)?
