How is the Tea Party?

Really? Let's look at a similar issue. I feel white men are treated differently (favorably) over white women, or women of any color. Would you agree or disagree? And would you agree or disagree because you knew anything about what it was like to be a woman (of any color)?

When I see women doing as well as men, and I do, I say I don't have to be a woman to "know what it's like".

Simple, when you use the race card because people want the president to be a one term guy and you ignore the horrible job he's done as reasons because in your mind it HAS to be because of the color of his skin, then you're the one with the race problem.

The guy interviewing him nailed him, but didn't press him much on it. "But that doesn't mean they're racist." He goes on to talk about how R's wanted Clinton out in four years. In my experience, deep down, the party without their guy in the oval office always wants him to be one-term.

 

Again, I love Morgan Freeman. One of my 3-4 all-time favorite actors. But he couldn't be more inaccurate in his assessment here.

Morgan Freeman is an excellent actor...there's no denying that. However, I lost most, if not all of my respect for him beyond acting when I read about THIS little nugget.

 

Also, his comments in the first video come as little to no surprise to me.

He was being specific about the Tea Party(rightly or wrongly). He didn't say "white America" hates the President.

Disagree, it isn't hard to read between the lines in his comments. We'll agree to disagree, Clyde, but I see him as guilty of what he's accusing the Tea Party of.

Ok-- I had to read the first 2 paragraphs several times to follow who was whose mom, grandaughter, ex-wife, etc. Not to thread jack, but I gotta say that I find every day life challenging and complicated enough---and that is without shuffling the name-tags!

A few thoughts...

 

1. I disagree with Freeman's assertion that McConnell and others in office from the Republican Party are going to do "whatever it takes to get this black man out of office." He obviously believes that the color of Obama's skin is the only reason they want him out. I believe they will do whatever they can to get Obama out of office, not because of skin color, but because they disagree with his policies. That my opinion. I think the point about Clinton would support that. He wasn't black, but the Republicans were just as eager to get him out of office. What's the difference? Two big ones, IMO, are 1) the country is in worse shape than then and 2) the 24-hour news channels have amplified everything related to politics to the nth degree.

 

2. I didn't have any problem whatsoever with the 60 Minutes clip. I agree with him. I think Black History Month is ridiculous. Always have. As he said, it is American History, and in all honesty, world history. I wouldn't want a "white history month."

 

3. I watched a show once about people who had a black mother and white father (or vice versa) and were "light-skinned black people" (that's the term they used on the show). The interesting point being made over and over was how they were treated as outcasts by the darker skinned, 100% black people. Basically, they were outcasts all the way around...viewed as white by black people and viewed as black by white people. I've always found it interesting how Obama is viewed exclusively as a black man, and have always wondered how much, if any, of this attitude he had to deal with throughout his life.

 

4. I do believe we have an over-infatuation with stars and celebrities in our society. We make a big deal any time they say anything we don't agree with, or anything that can be played off as "controversial". However, I don't understand the "they play ball or makes movies and that's all they should do" attitude. We all have a right to express our opinion. I don't have a problem with any celebrity speaking their mind. Most of them are citizens just like me. Their particular ability and our obsession with celebrity gives them a wider audience, but it is the same basic point. And, they can often use that stage to accomplish some really good things. I don't think they should lose their 1st Amendment rights when they rise to stardom.

Why anyone would have 'respect' or 'lose respect' for a celebrity they never met is strange to me. I have many favorite actors, actresses and athletes that I like and will vigorously defend in a public forum if warranted but if George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon make a united stand against black people I am still going to watch Ocean's 14 and The Bourne Redemption(or whatever the next Bourne movie will be named).

Because he sees them as white only? "whatever it takes to get this black man out of office." His comment is very telling.

I hate Black History Month. Why do we have to have the shortest month of the year? Really? Can't even get a 30 day month? Really?

 

I guarantee Obama has dealt with racism from both sides. Both of my parents are black but I was ridiculed by some blacks because I spoke proper("you talk white"......"no, I speak English you dummy"). I am almost certain Obama is in the category of being called a racial epithet by one side and Uncle Tom by the other.

 

Again, I don't agree with some of the things Morgan Freeman said but I understand why he feels the way he does. In his mind he is reading between the lines and seeing and hearing what he feels is racist overtures. He did drive Miss Daisy......If that is defending him then so be it. I'm still not going to watch A Dolphin Tale.

I haven't seen anyone say they won't watch Freeman's movies any more, I sure will. I'll also continue to watch documentaries he does because he does an excellent job.
