I loath Alec Baldwin's political views on most everything, but I consider him one of the greatest actors of our time. I will continue to watch Freeman's movies, because he is good at his craft. As with all other celebrities, that is all I need or want from him, the execution of his craft. I could care less what else he thinks.

 

Agreed...except for the Alec Baldwin "one of the greatest actors" comment. :lol: I think I'd actually rather listen to him spew out political views than see him on film/TV.

 

But what you say is true...about political views of celebrities. If that impacted what movies I watch, I would have given up Tommy Lee Jones films a long time ago. I'm not fond of what Freeman says here, but he is a splendid actor whose work I'll continue to follow.

Fastbreak, I'm not supporting or validating Freeman's comments. I'm simply saying that, give his background, I can see where he would believe there is some bigotry behind the Tea Party movement.

 

I do agree with this assessment. My father is over 60 and is a highly educated and highly successful man who has to deal with politicians quite regularly and his beliefs are very similar to Morgan Freeman's. Some I agree with, some I don't but I understand why they feel that way.

For those defending Morgan Freeman I'm amazed at the fact that you guys don't see him as painting an entire group of people as racist because of a handful of them. I've often heard many of you use the term "that's a broad brush you're painting with" yet you fail to say it here. Fact is, Mr. Freeman is being racist here, it's really that simple. I'm surprised at those giving him a pass on it.

 

And for what it's worth, I am still a fan of his acting and will not boycott his movies now. The only overly political actors I refuse to watch is because they're pathetic actors IMO. If I let political views get in the way when it comes to Hollywood, I wouldn't be able to watch any movies.

C'mon though. In "real life" there are plenty of people who spout the same kind of stuff and hold "real professions". Freeman et al get interviewed, but it's not like there aren't other people who don't, don't spout off their opinions as well. Shoot...that's part of the allure of the internet and blogs. Pretty much everyone is spouting off their opinion as if it's 100% truth. Why should entertainers be held to any different standard than you or I?

I may have not clarified well enough or you may not have caught my point. I think a lot of people associate actors, sports figures, etc. with holding some kind of great knowledge because they are idolized by many for their unique talent(s) we are in awe of. Just because of that it does not mean they should be held to a different standard.

I disagree, it's just that they have a voice that the everyday people like you or I don't. I think it has zero to do with holding them to a different standard or thinking they hold great knowledge, it's just that they have a much louder voice that's heard by masses.

This appears to be part of the overall campaign targeting the Tea Party function. The words are scripted. You can find similar attacks over the last couple of weeks by many on the internet. The words are read by an actor on a show that is targeted at a liberal audience. With Morgan Piers ratings all of 5 people saw this live.

 

It is a shame this administration is using the race card so blatantly. It does appears they are smart enough to know that broadcasting their socialist policies and running on their record will not work.

Really? Let's look at a similar issue. I feel white men are treated differently (favorably) over white women, or women of any color. Would you agree or disagree? And would you agree or disagree because you knew anything about what it was like to be a woman (of any color)?
