Highlands and Bell County

I find it funny how things get exaggerated. You may be referring to games in the past that I cant speak for and if that is the case then I retract.... however if you are talking about 2 years ago in the semis then I would have to say you are exaggerating big time.

I'm not sure if you ever stood on the field, however the mud was not ankle deep. As a matter of fact, the field was not even that muddy, although it was wet.

The only mud on the field was concentrated in the middle of the field due to the fact that that portion of the field was already dirt since Bell runs the ball between the tackles 90% of the time. Once it rained that week that dirt turned to mud! Outside of the ashes the field wasnt bad at all. It makes no sense that Bell would muddy the area of the field where they planned to attack offensively, and leave the area of the field where HHS attacked most often unmuddied!

Consider the fact that the white jerseys of HHS were not that muddy at the end of the game, at least not near as muddy as Bell's jerseys after playing Ashland the week before (Bell's jerseys after the game looked mud colored, very little white was visable). There are pictures to prove all this.

As for the ankle deep, I was on the field and it was ankle deep. However I could understand your statement if you happen to be wearing waterskis. :D Also have the tape of the game and unrecognizable numbers on jersey's means it's muddy in my dictionary.

I'll go out on a limb and say that 72 was referring to the 96 game but I'm not 100% sure.

ukb14, I have to agree with Henry for reasons other than I don't like sleeping in the doghouse. Perhaps your field was not as muddy as Ashland's the week before. We weren't there. But to say Bell's field was not muddy, is just not accurate. I was on the field after the game wearing my usual clod kickers, and it was definitely muddy throughout the field. And a lot (admittedly not all) of the Highlands numbers are unrecognizable by game end, actually before then. But that's football. Do I think the field affected the game? Yes. Do I think that Bell took it to Highlands and outplayed them for 3 quarters? Yes again. Its possible that both sides of this little ongoing debate are actually, for the most part, correct.

Henry 521... Waterskis do you no good in mud. Like I said, the field was definately wet, but not ankle deep muddy. Ankle deep mud is impossible to walk it, let alone play ball in.... it wasnt ankle deep. Ankle deep equals when you step on the field it engulfs your entire foot and leg up to the ankle.... that is a total exaggeration

Leatherneck... Never said the field wasnt muddy 2 years ago in the semis..... simply said it wasnt as bad as it is portrayed by some Highlands fans.

The field may have been horrible to the Highlands fans and players considering they dont play in SE KY very often except come semi's time.... but to a kid from SE KY who plays on fields as bad or worse every year come playoff time, Bells field wasnt that bad of a field at all!!!

To settle this.... I shall return at a later post with pictures of the game 2 years ago! :thumb:

As to your last point, fair enough. But can someone tell me how I post the game film on this site?

Don't show the picture of HHS coming off the bus, their uniforms aren't dirty yet. Just kidding! I went to the game and thought that it was kind of odd that the baseball field which was about 100 yds away looked to be dry after walking on it.

Look guys, we arent in Northern Kentucky where everyone has really nice fields and all that stuff. Our field was probably the nicest in SE Ky. You guys are judging our field based on all the nice fields you all see at Covington Catholic and more wealthy schools with nicer facilities. If you guys would have actually seen all the other fields in the area then maybe you would understand, but youve not.

Thats because no one was playing football on the baseball field. Having the field constantly being used makes a big difference!

I wasn't at the game and have no idea the condition of the field, but I have watched many games both on the baseball and football fields. In the Spring when it's in use, the baseball field, especially the outfield, is almost always wet and has puddles of standing water in the outfield. Numerous underground streams have always been a problem on the site and it doesn't take much rain to bring them to the surface. The ground several inches below the playing surface becomes saturated and the water above ground has no where to sink in.

They have a lot of really localized dounpours in that area. That night, they marked off the effected area with a white rectangle of chalk. ;)

Ok, it's a trade off. We have nice fields in NKY but the "nicer facilities" part of your statement is not in NKY. Nothing is more annoying then driving down state and seeing all these beautiful NEW school facilities while I have to walk past a crumbling school building on the way to the post office to pay my waaaaaay to high taxes. Sure wish some of that tax money would find its way back to the Fort.

Just wondering, but isn't the current high school the same one that LN went to waaaayyyy back in the stone ages? :D

Part of it is still the same one his father-in-law attended back in the 40's. Same heating system, no air conditioning still.

You mean the one with all the giant holes in the walls, ceilings collapsing and windows about to fall out?

That's the place
