UK Football.....the plane is descending!

When Rich Brooks was given the CEO hat, the UK football program was not at rock bottom, but it was not far from rock bottom. He methodically built it from the footer to the foundation and it was on the rise. He was the right man at the right time and he got it to a very good level.

When he passed the CEO hat to "Coach in Waiting", Joe Phillips, the program had all the components in place to grow it to the next step on the ladder towards the top. Let's say the nose of the plane was upward.

That has now changed and the nose of the plane is now pointing toward the ground. It is not aimed straight to the ground, but it is descending. I can not identify exactly when it happened, but it has happened. Maybe it was the Tennessee game. Maybe it was January, 2010.

If you look at the last three UK performances (Tennessee, Pittsburgh, and Western Kentucky), it is an obvious conclusion that the UK football fortunes are not headed in the direction many of us hoped that it would be heading.

This is from one of the most ardent UK supporters. I am about ready to hop out of the boat. I am very concerned about our football programs leadership. I think a lot of what I am talking about will be obvious to everyone, very soon.

What is the next move for Mitch Barnhart? He has to realize the plane is descending, doesn't he?

Not sure the plane was ever over 10,000 feet.

Actually, you make a very good point.

However, it was ascending at that time. It is not now, and my worry is it is descending faster than we realize.

Ascending? No. Maybe cruising at around 10,000 feet. Never a threat in conference play. Today's game might give us an indication. A losst would be FIUesque

UK has only had one season in recent memory that can be considered a "good" season by SEC standards, and that was Woodson's senior season, when they defeated LSU. Other than that, UK's "success" has mostly been due to advantageous non-conference scheduling and the fact that UL has been really down for the past 4-5 years, thereby allowing UK to get that very important win to become bowl eligible.

You are correct, from where it was when Brooks took over it had to go on down before the building process began. Key Word - building, not rebuilding. When it was never on top or very good then a program has to be built, not rebuilt. UK football has never been much if any above a middle of the pack SEC team and I hope that I am wrong but I don't think that it ever will. What is even more frustrating is that the problem is not a lack of facilities or support, UK has great football facilities.

When Brooks took over, the first couple of years I blasted him as much if not more than anyone, I Was Wrong. I am beginning to question Joker and staff as well but whenever I think about it then I look back at all the Brooks bashing. UK needs players....SEC talent and speed players and not just a very few which is all they have had. So, maybe another would be better than J. Phillips but no one else has done great things either. Should M. Barnhart want to go the route of another coach then he is going to have to get the check book out and pay, pay and pay alot to get a top name coach in Lexington. JMO

I think you guys are missing the point. Even though UK has still struggled in the SEC they have gotten better. To think about where they've come from to where they were when Joker took over it is not going in the right direction. I am all about giving Joker a chance but this isn't a program that needed to be rebuilt, it just needed to be taken to the next level. That level should be up and not down.

:thumb: As for the bolded you are absolutely correct.

Six wins to be bowl eligible is imo a joke. I personally think that a 7 win season (out of 12 games) is too few. The are more bowl games than Kellogs has Corn Flakes so it provides mediocre to bad football teams to play in a bowl. A 6-6 football team can now go t a bowl game, they lose that game and it imo is Congrats.....you had a losing season but you went to a bowl game for your reward. Yes, imo a 6/6 season is a losing season, if you don't have a bigger number on the left side then you didn't have a winning season, end of story, jmo.

I agree.

I am a fan of Joker.

However, there is certainly a lack of excitement over the team this year unlike any I can remember in a while.

My guess is today's attendance will reflect that.

It has to be a concern.
