If NKY 6A is so average what does that make the rest of 6A outside of Louisville?

Beechwood beat SK. Enrollment advantage?? I'm tired of this excuse when it comes to T & X. Lots of the bigger schools will never be competitive in football. It's in their DNA.

Move to a statewide 4/5 class system and have T and X on their own in a 5th/6th. The KHSAA wins with the fans and gets the big gate of an T/X game yearly.

Posing another question for all the ROCKS fans. Why isn't T just as dominate in all sports across the board on a yearly basis. I know X is dominate in golf and swimming, what other areas does T dominate in?? And I am referring to powerhouse statis, not an occasional good team.

Holmes, Mason Cty and LexCath seem to be perinial football and basketball powers yearly.

I don't have an answer really. We have the best powerlifting team in the nation every year, and our wrestling team is starting to dominate. Basketball? Who knows, but often times many of our best athletes didn't play. They do now. I expect our basketball team to be very, very good this year. We shall see. But you see, to me, if our enrollment is why we dominate football. It should be why we would dominate everything else, and that's just not the case.

Because numbers don't really matter as much in basketball. One stud can change a team where in football one stud can get you a few wins but in the long run you have to have more.

^ But law of averages state, that said stud would be walking or halls, and not the halls of JTown.

I still say the answer is five classes ... four like we used to have them and Trinity and St. Xavier in 5A by themselves.

And yes, I'm dead serious. If someone had the guts to propose it, I wouldn't be surprised if it passed.

I don't understand this.

Hypothetically, say the day comes when Trinity no longer competes in the KSAA. Will everyone finally be happy?

RockMom, I hope they stay, but when you talk to the general public about HS football they seem to want something diferent. I go to KentuckyPreps.com and read sometimes and they are much worse over there in their comments about Trinity/X. Most Southern Staes have a separate Playoff between the Publics and Privates. In the movie "Blind side" Michael won the Private School Championship in Tennessee. Plus Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia have separate Championships.

My son predicts his team will beat both this season. He is a Freshman. :jump:

Four classes, just as we used to have them, with Trinity and St. Xavier in a 5A class. They would play each other for a state title every year.

It could also serve as the "super class" that some people talk about here, but something tells me there would be no other takers.

^ That's a ridiculous statement.

Depth does not play a factor in basketball the way it does in other sports.

You don't see 5A and 6A teams with 30 players winning state titles in football. Go back and look at the rosters of every state champion in every class higher than 1A in the past five years and I'll bet every one of them have a roster size of 70+. Depth makes you better at practice and it makes you better in football games. In listening to the St. X people bemoan how they are down this year by X standards, one of the first things they cite is lack of depth they have had in years past.

Depth is pretty crucial in soccer also. It's nice to be able to practice 11 on 11 in soccer. Nice to be able to sub players in at will to keep fresh legs on the field. It's one of the reasons why small schools dont win state soccer titles. Numbers.

Baseball teams that have pitching depth usually win state titles. Small schools rarely have that kind of depth. It's why small schools rarely win state baseball titles.

You give me three good athletes on a football field and not a lot changes -- see Fern Creek last year.

You give me three good athletes on a basketball court and suddenly, I'm Holmes and Christian County playing for a state title.

People who attend large schools always blow off enrollment numbers as a disadvantage

The problem is that in reality, football-wise, it's pretty much only T&X that everyone has an issue with. How can you have a class for only 2 schools? Why penalize the smaller private schools?

Then when Ballard, Butler and Manual are all too good, create yet another class. A few years later create a class for Fern Creek, Eastern, and Male. When do you stop? When EVERYONE wins a state championship. Wasn't it only like 15 years ago when Trinity was barely a .500 team (albeit a good one)?

There are a lot of different ways to complain, but a class for JUST T & X? That's really pushing it.

Put in the time in the weight room and film rooms that T & X does. Or a more tangible example from a couple of years ago: The news ran a story about how one high school team was dealing with the heat index by moving practice into the gym for most of the week. T moved practice to like 7 or 8 AM. Bob Beatty's quote was that he had never played a game in a gym.

Yadda, yadda, yadda ...
