It seems like you're awfully fired up over a week-two NKY coaches poll... This isn't tournament seeding, state ranking, or even anything of real consequence.

 

Cov Cath had a "scrimmage victory" (as if a scrimmage victory really even matters) over Ryle, Cov Cath walloped Campbell County, and beat a Dixie team that, for better or worse, was highly ranked in the preseason. They're ranked at #2.

 

Ryle had a "scrimmage loss" to Cov Cath, walloped Cooper, and walloped a Tates Creek team that was unranked in the preseason and isn't expected to make much noise. They're ranked #3.

 

Could those positions be argued? Yes. Could they change as the year progresses? Yes. How about waiting until they've played against some common opponents to make some real arguments one way or another?

I don't think you can put too much stock in the Dixie win either. NCC exposed Dixie alot worse the week before than CC did. I realize Pike is a difference maker, but, NCC absolutely humiliated them from the word go and didn't have to play from behind at any point.

 

The coaches polls are always much more opinion and conjecture at this point in the season than later. All five of the top five teams are 2-0, and they have little common ground to compare apples to apples other than the Cov Cath/Ryle scrimmage and the Dixie matchups. Given their inconsistent performances and inconsistent lineups, Dixie doesn't make a very good "control study". Sure, Highlands is the obvious first place, but who knows what will happen between Cov Cath, Ryle, Beechwood, and New Cath until more of those teams have performed against common opponents or each other?

Who cares. We are in WEEK 2 of the season, well going into week 3 Friday.

 

Lets wait to see what happens in October.

Because it's a Coach's Poll. If coaches feel that Cov is better than Ryle, at this point, then it is warranted. No one ever questions how some teams sneak in a dirty first place vote, do they?? People know the truth, let the poll say what it wants.

Absolutely a beat down last year, but it may have been Ryle's best team ever and was a rebuilding year for CCH.

The Ryle team that went to state may have something to say about that....

As many are saying, it's only week two, so polls aren't exactly scientific at this point, but since you're still digging, then how about this for an answer:

 

Depending on how you choose to see it, Cov Cath either beat Ryle in a preseason scrimmage, or tied Ryle in a preseason scrimmage since their starters were even at the end of 3 quarters. Cov Cath has two regular season victories: 1 against a team that was unranked in preseason polls, and 1 against a team that was ranked in preseason polls. Ryle has two regular season victories as well, both against teams that were unranked in preseason polls. Both teams are undefeated in the regular season, but Cov Cath has beaten more ranked teams.

Who cares. We are in WEEK 2 of the season, well going into week 3 Friday.

Agreed. What the heck difference does it make? Let's worry about Colerain. That's a much bigger concern than ranking in NKY.

B/c the coaches were polled and that's what the coaches thought. It's a poll. Let it go already. Besides CCH is a better balanced team and they probably are better as a team. It takes 11 and as great as Travis is he's still 1 player. 1 very good player.

Can you explain to me why Ryle deserved to be ranked number two in the first place? It's an opinion based poll. Call around to the local high schools and try asking the coaches individually why they ranked them the way they did.

And to set the record straight, anyone thinking CovCath is scared to play Ryle (or just about anyone else around for that matter) is ridiculous.

Both good teams and ashame they dont play in regular season. I would love to see that game! Which team has more good to great players on it and I would say CovCath. We know Travis is great but who else do they have that would be on All Northern Kentucky 1st Team. I know CovCath has many more good to great players and deserves some respect.

Clyde last year at Nippert Ryle won 61-7. Year before not sure if you would classify as a beat down but Ryle won 34-11.
