Byrnes (SC) 68 Ballard 0

Two matters here:

1. The Ballard head coach did his team no favors with the comments he made to them throughout the game. I understand wanting to motivate players but comments like yesterday are more teasing than team building. Grow up coach.

2. A coach from Bryne told me St. X had first pick as to who they desired to play. I have no reason to doubt the coach, but can anyone confirm this? I agree it would have made better sense to pit X vs Bryne as Ballard was bt far outmatched on the field (and on the sideline).

I can not imagine that there is a team in the country that beats this year's Trinity team by 4 or 5 touchdowns; and before anyone calls me a Trinity homer or even a fan, check my posts in the past on national high school football.

This game does not mean much. Looks like it was a schedule filler. Why it was a schedule filler who knows.

Ballard used eight Sophomores and one Freshman. Can't blame them for wanting to play agame of this magnatude at PaPaJohns. They want to get ready for games more important later in the season. Some of these comments are disappointing to me as a fan of high school football.

How many posters coached at the high school head coach level? And thats all I'm gonna say about that.

What comments did he make? I assume you know this because you were on the field and heard him?

Or else in very close proximity - so as to have been able to hear them first hand??

I would be curious as well - with no disrespect to our Good Friend AL - (who seemed to me) to raise a cautionary note.

As these games were being planned, St. X made an independent agreement to play Riverdale. The thinking was if the games at Papa John's did not happen, St. X and Riverdale would still play. At that time, Ballard was scheduled to play Neace High School (Fl.). St. X was asked if they would play Neace and they refused. Under Florida rules, Neace could not play out of state this year because of their team GPA. As it turns out, Byrnes lost an opponent from Florida for the same reason. As a result, Byrnes agreed to come to KY. St. X was asked to play Byrnes and they refused.

Photographer reported such to me as I arrived on the field. Comments (to include cursing) would not make much sense to repeat not having the events of the game at hand. I'm sure frustration was overwhelming the coach, much as Bryne's offense was. Still, no excuse.

This info is invalid

X was smart not to play Byrnes. But maybe they would have with the teams from 2004 - 2009. :sssh:

I talked with someone who was on that sideline. I was told it was only encouraging comments being tossed around.

Exactly... I am "here to say" it!

Source 100% reliable. Believe what you want though, it's a free country.

Byrnes produced Marcus Lattimore. Who else have they produced?

Trinity has Brian Brohm on its resume.

Bringing up one great player from a school's past doesn't mean that much. My high school alma mater has never come close to producing a collegiate superstar, much less an NFL player, yet they defeated the school that produced Thomas Jones. :idunno:

I'm aware that Byrnes is a high school football power in the state of South Carolina. I also agree that the quality of football as a whole is better in the southern states vs. Kentucky. The problem is that that argument doesn't mean much when discussing Trinity.

The Shamrocks have proven over the past decade that their level of football is significantly higher than public school football in KY, so I figure that puts them on a similar level. Considering many seem to believe this may be their best team ever, it is hard for me to believe they'd get trounced by anyone.

And finally, since when does Ballard represent the best of KY's public schools? They're 28-20 in the last 4 years, they've been eliminated in the second round of the 6A playoffs in each of those 4 years, and they've given Trinity one competitive game in that span (2009, which was a down year for Trinity).

Ballard vs. Trinity

2007: 48-23 & 63-14

2008: 38-7 & 37-13

2009: 21-14

2010: 56-21

Trinity's average margin of victory in six games over 4 years is roughly 30 points.
