True Blue, yes thats true you and others have stated that,, the issue here is over the loud speaker so others/players/coaches/cheerleaders/band/press box folks, who might not have praying on their mind will hear it. Jesus as I have stated prayed with others many times out loud, and I even stated this earlier. Man has taken this from us, and I don't think he is pleased with this act.

 

If prayer is not said its no big issue, I'm there to watch a game, but for the folks who want it said over the speaker and its taken away, thats the issue. Man changes things God doesn't change.

Honestly, it means more to me to see/hear people choose to pray on their own than it does to hear it said over a loudspeaker. A couple of weeks ago our football team was at a restaurant before a game. My four football managers said a prayer before they ate. They weren't loud and wouldn't have disturbed a single soul. But their act was noticed by several, who came to me and told me and our coach how wonderful they thought that it was that those teenage girls would say a prayer before a meal.

 

Our actions speak more loudly for us than our words ever do.

AL, my response was to you. Jesus did pray out loud, but would he have needed to do it over loudspeakers?

 

Also, from my example, how do you know that anyone else had already prayed?

 

As a Christian, I would be pleased to see a group of parents/fans/whomever group up in the stands at a game and say a prayer, offering anyone around that wanted to do so to join in. Maybe it happens - I don't really get to see the stands very much.

^Here's what I don't understand...Why can't you guys understand that what you believe isn't what everyone believes? It's not that hard. I am Catholic, and believe a certain set of beliefs, some one else is Buddhist and believes something completely different, another person is Jewish, and believes something different as well. Why does my Catholic, (Christian), belief take precedent over their beliefs? Why is my faith the one allowed a prayer, and those not given one?

 

The easy solution is a simple moment of silence. That allows everyone to pray to whatever God they so choose. It doesn't diminish the impact or effect of the prayer, I promise you that.

 

And yes, I know Jewish and Christian both pray to the same God, it's just an example.

 

Here is the answer to that. As a Christian I think there is only one way to Heaven, alot of other roads leads to Hades. I dont want anyone to suffer that. Whether you or me or anyone else likes it or not, Jesus says there is only one way to Heaven.....and the other religions are not saying Jesus is the only way to Heaven. So what do you really believe?

It's not about specifically Bell Co. It's about a public school setting having as part of the public school funded program a public prayer.

 

And no one has an issue with it still being said before games. If someone in the stands wants to stand up and say a prayer aloud, more power to them. The issue many have is that it shouldn't be part of the football game put on by the school.

 

I know where its said over the loud speaker. This school also got a letter like Bell over two years ago from the same organization. Superintendent showed it to the community. Told them they would not stop. Community passed the letter around all the churches. The people were angry over this. Prayer is still said before every home game at this school, both football and basketball. How do I know this? We played both sports there and I know people there who told me about it.

I'm a Catholic, Libertarian who will never allow my faith to compromise my political beliefs.

 

What do you believe? From the looks of your posts, it seems as if you feel we should live in a Theocracy, which is the absolute worst form of government there is.

I am a Christian. Brought up in a Methodist Church, now attend a Non-Denominational Church.

A Theocracy? God ruled before the people wanted a King in the OT. He should be the divine leader in all our lives, not a Political party. That might be hard for you to fathom....

^You are correct. Nothing about a government that rules by religion is a good thing. Their only purpose is self-serving for those in charge. It's far and away the most radical form of rule.

Wonder what Heaven will be like? Obama should have you on some sort of advisory board with all your views....

I have always said that everyone should respect everyone elses opinion on these forums but this forum has proven me wrong. This forum is a mirror of what is wrong with our country. Everyone fights and argues over religion and in fact religion is man made. God has no hand in religion. God has one church that Jesus created while here on earth as a man, God doesn't have a religion. The Bible is Gods word and it does say that the only way to the father is through the son you must be saved by the blood of Jesus Christ anything else falls short. He also commands us to go out and preach/teach to the world and we can't do that if we are afraid to step on someones toes or offend their religion which in fact was created to serve self-intrest of a person or group of people. I will be glad, as I always am, to sit down with anyone and let them show me in Gods word where what they say is right and if they can then I will agree it's right but if they can't then I don't have a problem telling them that they are wrong. I know several of you will get on here and attack this post but you won't be able to back it up biblically. If our country continues to turn away from God it will eventually suffer Gods wrath. What we need is to start every day at school with prayer, end every school day with prayer, pray at every event athletic or not and by putting God first in our lives as a country we may be able to start healing our country from rampat drug use, violence, teenage pregnancy ect.... Someone on here said they weren't God like and that no one was and that is true but we are suppose to strive to be as God like as possible even though we will all fall way short of the glory of God we are still suppose to try. You will not find many Libertarians that will even come close to agreeing with President Obama on much of anything. I think your comment to that should be retracted.
