How is saying that if they're going to allow a Christian prayer said over the loudspeaker, they need to allow one from all religions, being anything but the very definition of tolerant? :confused:

How dense are you? I mean seriously. How many times do we have to say this isn't specifically about Bell Co.? It's about promoting one set of beliefs over another in a public school setting. It shouldn't be done. They should give all beliefs the same rights.

 

Since you're so adament about specifically Bell Co., why couldn't they just allow anyone of other beliefs the opportunity to say a prayer over the loudspeaker? If it's so "Christian" as you say, there probably wouldn't be any difference. That way, there not promoting a specific religion, which is absolutely against what our country was founded based on.

Why is the sticking point here the one act of perceived "intolerance"?

 

Ad nauseam in this thread it's been stated that this was a very longstanding tradition, and I don't know all the details of how long exactly that is... But I'm sure there's been more than one Jewish person, atheist, Buddhist, etc. attend a game at Bell County in the past. The fact that no commotion has been made about this before actually seems pretty tolerant to me.

 

The article stated they were going to continue the tradition until they were asked to stop, which in itself lends credence to the thought that they've known what they were doing was constitutionally wrong but wanted to see how long it would take someone to notice. I applaud them for getting away with it as long as they have, but it wasn't the right move and it's finally been officially pointed out to them.

The letter instructs the school district to stop "a flagrant violation of the law." It's referring to a prayer before the football game, given by a local pastor.

 

It's a time honored tradition - that appears to have come to an end.

Well I am for letting all of the Buddhists get up and pray at Bell Co, considering their rights have been violated and since there are so many of them there. If you think I am wrong or warped, then what do you think I think about your ideas. You are as bad as you think I am.
