Is Trinity that good, Highlands that bad, or...

The kicking game also scares me a little. Why is there not a soccer kid out there kicking the ball in the endzone 80% of the time. I know New is a decent kicker but I guarantee he doesn't spend a ton of time honing the skill since he starts on D.

I recall Sweeperboy saying that the offense is so good that it won't matter.:eyeonyou:

Guru, what do you think is the reason behind Trinity being so much better than Highlands? I know you have been quick to downplay Trinity's size advantage or their private school status. If it is not that, then what? Better coaching, harder working kids, more dedicated fan base/community? What?

Highlands and Trinity are on the same level in most ways. The only thing that makes T better (than pretty much anybody around here) is the amount of athletes on their team. Trinity has always had a very strong program but today and over the last several years its has stepped to another level.

If this is true, then what (if anything) can 99% of KY programs do to ever compete with Trinity.

Guru is always harassing the public schools for not being more competitive, but on this issue he is way off... TonyDanza nailed it... It's about the athletes (quantity and quality) and 99% of schools in KY will never be able to match this, no matter how hard the players work or how good the coaches are. I don't think anyone will say that HHS players, coaches or the community is not committed enough to rise to the occasion.

Sorry to call you out Ru, but you know it is true.

As much as I hate to say it (because I do belive in the "on any given day a team can be beat") no MOST will not be able to compete. I do not say this with any arrogance.

Ru, I'd say that Trinity is extremely, extremely good and Highlands, well we have some things to work on and get straightened out before Boyle. The coaches and players know what those items are; no need for me to pile on.

Congrats Rocks. I was very impressed. Beautiful facility. Met some nice T fans. Several Highlands fans commented to me how graciously the fans treated them. Great to see Tony D. Henry's still mad at me for not taking my phone into the stadium.

So good to see you! Look forward to seeing you and Henry sometime soon!

Trinity = Mmm, mmm, good. Highlands looked like they might hang with them early in the first quarter, thanks to an INT, but once Trinity got on track, it was pretty obvious that the Birds were outgunned. The running game was non existent, the short game was only mildly effective, and with the exception of the long ball to Luke Turner, the long game was nil. One of the guy I was there with said it best. At least Highlands got a good idea what they need to work on before the district games start. This scrimmage couldn't have been a better learning tool.

That said, nothing about the evening convinced me that playing Louisville schools on a regular basis would be a great idea. Everything about the night was great, the facility, the people, the surrounding area. Give me this over Elder/Colerain/St. X any day.

Now my question is , why does Trinity have their entire 1st team offense in the srimmage with the score of 38-6 ? They even had Quick return a kickoff and a punt late in the game. As far as Trinity's D goes , I assume the 1st team was still in the fourth quarter. Finally 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter and T's second team finally gets to play.

I am surprised nobody has posted the "preparing the 1st team to play an entire game yada, yada." I don't understand when any team does this but have realized it just how some programs work.

We can agree to disagree jb.

So, what could/can HHS do differently to be more competitive with T?

I know it is a sidebar but I agree the Trinity fans are always out of this world nice. T is one of my favorite places to enjoy high school football.

I was expecting to get hammered on this post . Thanks for taking it easy on me . :D As I said in my earlier post , T looked in mid season form . The 1st team looked to be in great shape and looked like they could have played till sun up if they needed to. In fact both teams are very conditioned as niether team had any problems of cramping.

There was a Trinity family that came over to the Highlands bleechers to exchange hand shakes and hugs to a Bird family . I was thinking it was Rockmom from BGP , how about it Rockmom , was that you ?

Would anyone have expected Trinity to go second team in the regular season at that score? I say no. The first team stays on the field till you have a running clock score. Especially when you are talking Highlands. It may not have happened versus Trinity, but Highlands can score very fast. That 38-6 score could have been 38-20 before you know it. True, it is a scrimmage but a scrimmage usually has set guidelines by the coaches about getting the starters ready for the season in real game conditions and finding strengths/weaknesses. The starters play their allotted time and then other time is set aside during the scrimmage to get other players playing time.

Trinity's O and D lines are big and can move . Highlands lines are just as fast , but a lot smaller .

I don't know who the leader of the D will be , Drake and Devon Bruns played good last night , but it seems like Drake only played about 75% of the time .

The sun was setting in the 1st quarter and was a big factor as Highlands lost the toss ,and had to look into it the whole 1st quarter.

I sat at the scrimmage with my Highlands practice spy , you know the one that wouldn't talk . Well, last night he told me why he didn't say anything. He said " my mom told me if I didn't have anything good to say , don't say nothing at all ! He is back on my payroll and would like to be called "the mole " although the better name for him is coo coo bird.

The Birds will be fine , but still have a lot of work to do . Trinity will make a lot teams look bad.

Classic! I knew it wasn't because they were the inferior team. The arrogance never ends.

I assume you can read and understand English , correct ? Go back and read the T & H threads again . :ohbrother:
