What's happened to Bardstown these last several years? I see they're ranked to start the season, but, it seems like they've really taken a nose dive these past few seasons. New coaches? Losing kids to the other area schools? Numbers down? Anyone know what the deal is with these guys recently? 5 to 15 yrs ago, they were a juggernaut pretty much every year...

Not heard anyone mentioning Union Co here either. With them moving down from 3a and Ft Campbell and Trigg Co moving up and Russellville moving down, I think they could be a bigtime sleeper out of the west. Not sure what they return, but, they've been pretty darn solid the last couple of years...

Newcath lost a ton of talent from last years team. Is their program that far ahead of the rest of the state that they are still the team to beat? Giesler, Grueneslaeger, Doyle, Cain, Kelley, etc. will all be hard to replace.

They lost a 20-player senior class ... most of their playmakers from last year are gone.

Union lost a ton. So did Murray.

 

Washington County could very well be a darkhorse in 2A but they were a passing system under Perry. I'm hearing there is some question over what system they will return.

Tough schedules featuring lots of 5A and 6A teams since the split to six classes, compounded by major injury problems the past couple seasons. By the time they got to the district part of the schedule, they were generally very beat-up.

 

There is some buzz around town that the Tigers could be poised for a big season, for what it's worth.

Not any more. They are now in Class 2A, District 2. Their district includes Butler County, Hancock County, McLean County, Owensboro Catholic and Todd County Central.

Yes. What's returning are a lot of players who played the second half of most playoff games last year and still more than held their own against the best teams in the state. They will be very good, and until someone in 2A shows that they can come close to playing with them I think they should be rated where they are.

I agree! But I will say this, they lost a ton of talent but they are still the defending champs period! but looking at what some of the other schools in that district have coming back, 2A football in NKY is going to be exciting, its anybodys ball game up here.
