The NFL Players Association and the league have reached an agreement on a new labor deal, NFL.com reported Monday.

The deal is not set in stone: the 32 player representatives and all NFL players must approve the new deal. But NFL.com reports "at this point it appears a formality."

 

Sports Illustrated senior writer Peter King reported the representatives will have a conference call at 11 a.m. ET.

Negotiators reached the agreement in the very early hours of Monday morning, the report said. If accepted, the deal would end the lockout that started in March.

Bad thing is we still have to wait until Saturday before any free agency signings can go down, but at least it looks like pro football is back in business.

This has done nothing but generate more interest in the NFL, imo. Really have any fans been turned off/away from the NFL because they locked-out and reached an agreement in the off-season? Minus a brief NBA playoff stint, the NFL was the most popular sport the past few months because it stayed in the news.

I don't think it has created more interest. 3 Months of them talking about lawyers, court rooms, and how to split up the Billions they have been making is enough to make me want to vomit. Anytime recently I have heard any lockout related news I have changed the station or channel. I am very sick of it all. If it does have any negative effect if will be very very minimal.

No it sucks to hear about the stuff, sure. It has kept it in the news, that is all I am saying. Until significant time is lost in a sport the negative effects are non-existent.

Everywhere but in Cincinnati maybe. This should be interesting to see how the Browns handle this week. It should make for some great laughter.

:thumb: This whole thing has been a pimple on a gnat's rear as far as I am concerned. I can't imagine anyone was bothered much by this. They haven't even missed a pre-season game yet. So the Hall of Fame game got cancelled. Whoop ti do. They could miss all the pre-season games and it wouldn't bother me. I don't think any fans would really get upset until they missed regular season games. I love sports so I am glad the deal is done. The fact that they missed a few off season workouts and the free agents and rookies haven't signed yet ... so what.

According to Mike and Mike this morning Adam Schefter said teams could sign their own FA today and begin talks with other FA today. But said they could sign any FA tomorrow.

I thought I heard him say that teams couldn't sign their own until Wednesday and they were still trying to get the date for signing other FAs from Saturday moved back to this Friday. Maybe I misunderstood.

I think all of the above has been reported and changed. I'm pretty sure people are just running with anything to have a story and to quote an un-named high ranking source.
