Players, NFL reach new labor deal

Featured Replies

According to Mike and Mike this morning Adam Schefter said teams could sign their own FA today and begin talks with other FA today. But said they could sign any FA tomorrow.

What I've saw said that they could start talking to players today but could not sign free agents until Friday.

Trades and cuts can start to go down tomorrow though, I think cuts may be made today even.

And all Vegas sportsbooks are jumping for joy right now, cant imagine how big a hit to them that would have been to have no NFL this season.

With all the new rules the NFL sounds like the sissy league! No two a days and only one contact practice a week what a joke sounds like its going to be some horrible football I will stick with College and High School football!

^ Right the product in the college and HS is so much better.

Better than watching NFL games! The NFL as turned into what the NBA has been for a while.

Gotdweeb made a good point tonight. He made a comment about how they got it done for the fans when in the end the fans will actually get the short end of the stick. Season ticket holders still will be held hostage to pony up full price for exhibition games while the owners make money hand over fist during those games. When the TV deal is done in five years we can also expect to pay more for the Sunday ticket. So while it's nice we'll get our fantasy fix we are the ones lsoing the most.

Really entertaining?

We always get the short end. How much say did fans get even though 10 of the 32 NFL stadiums were completely financed with public money... 19 of the 32 were at least 75% publicly financed... 31 of the 32 have received at least some direct public subsidy. Our reward for handing over tax dollars to build owners new palaces for their teams? Ticket prices that make it increasingly difficult to actually attend games and a kick in the pants for any city that dares question the ownership model.

As Mike Golic said the other morning, fans get to vote every time they choose to buy a ticket or not. I haven't paid to see a Bengals game in about 15 years. I think the prices are outrageous. There are so many commercials and stoppage of game action, I find it irritating to watch a game in person. If you don't like ticket prices, don't buy a ticket.

Thanks to the massive TV deals the NFL now holds, Mike Brown doesn't need anyone to show up.

What do you think will happen to those deals if people quit showing up?

It's going to be interesting. I'm of the opinion that the following -- the development of high definition technology, the escalation in prices for parking, food and drink, the massive rise in ticket prices and the ability of fans to own a much larger TV than they could just a few years ago-- have actually made it a more pleasant experience to stay home and watch a game. I'm curious as to how high ticket prices can get in all the major sports leagues before they realize they've hit a wall. I would imagine it's already hitting the NBA and I'm really anxious to see if that has any effect on labor negotiations and upcoming TV deals. I really don't know what this is going to mean for these teams.

All good points and most of the reasons I would perfer to sit in my living room and watch a game then at the stadium.
