Highlands better worry about their scrimmage with Trinity first!

 

Why would you worry about a scrimmage? It's just a scrimmage.

Ok ... so seriously? Not talking about who us going to win but looking them in the eyes?

 

Absolutely. I have known some of these boys since they were 6-7 years old. When they come over if I say to them, "you guys can't beat Highlands" then those words from my mouth to their ears would do more damage than motivating. Me telling them that would cause them to think that I don't believe in them and that couldn't be further from the truth. Not to mention, if I heard one of them say, "we can't beat Highlands" then I would work hard to correct that mentality. Like I said, we don't raise our Rebels not to believe in themselves and in my presence they will believe in themselves and they will know that I always believe in them.

 

You also have to keep in mind that this year's senior class has lost 1 game as members on the varsity team and 0 games in the last two years. Losing and being the underdog isn't something these boys are used to being. The last thing and worst thing I think that parents, fans and coaches could do is plant a seed of doubt in their heads. I don't know any Rebel supporter that will look in these boys eyes and tell them they are going to lose to Highlands.

Well it is early, but it beats a "Best Concession" thread all to heck.

I think Boyle wins this one. Highlands will improve thruout the year and most likely get a 2nd shot at them in the playoffs where they'll play better, but, likely still take it on the chin in a close game.

History has a different perspective on this subject than you do. Here it is, what do you think?

 

Since 1915, in just the first game of the season, the Birds have have a record of 72 wins, 20 losses and 2 ties. (one loss was a forfeit - 1991).

 

Since 1990, the Birds have a first game of the season record of 15 wins and 5 losses. (Again, one by forfeit - 1991) .

 

Since 2000, the first game of the season record is 8 wins and 2 losses. The Birds haven't lost a season opener since 2002.

 

This includes some Ohio schools, including some GCL south schools, as well as some big KY programs as well.

 

The Birds have consistently shown that they are in mid-season form, for the opener, and I don't expect anything to change this year. (JMO)

Those two years gave the HHS players the extra needed experience so they would need little playing time to be productive in the early season games. That along with the platoon system has increased their chances of being very good early in the season , and they get better every game.

Kind of. The O-Line and D-Line are on the platoon system. We have a few guys that play one way at skill positions also. We probably have 3-5 guys that play both ways. 2 RB's, 1 WR and maybe one or two others.
