Tragedy on the Brent Spence Bridge.

Featured Replies

. If I ever broke down on that bridge, I would get out of my car and run as fast as I can to get off the bridge. Kentucky, Ohio and the US should be embarrassed.
This is the very last thing I would do. In fact thinking about it more, this is completely insane.

The plans for replacment are not great at all. Why not shut down the bridge and divert all 71/75 traffic to 275/471, get rid of the old bridge and but the new one on the same spot.

The traffic jam it would cause because of forcing all the 71/75 drivers to go the 275/471 route would be an absolute nightmare. Its just not feasible. At this point, they'd be better off with building a new bridge along the river and making the necessary modifications to the roads to allow travel between the borders.

I say they just build a giant ramp and we ll cross it Dukes of Hazard style.

Sadly it will be well over a decade before a new bridge is built. That bridge is a mess.

I honestly believe that part of the Brent Spence will fall into the river before we see a replacement.

There was also a wreck on the lower deck at the same time. Usually Friday's are pretty good for travel on 75N but not today.

If one looked at the studies and the final few plans, it's actually not a bad idea in the long run. Plans are now to build the new bridge just down river from the current one, and keep the old one as well. One final plan is to have the old one for local traffic, and another plan has the old one to handle 71's traffic. The extra merges added afterwards will add more confussion. All final plans have no Cov 5th street ramps either north or south, I know some people including business owners are trying to change that.

It's also unbelievable on the cost to move that power station next to the bridge as well!

Why not tunnel under the river instead of building a bridge? I like that idea much better. Force trucks to use 275. Another thing that would help is if 71 had it's own interstate from the river to the ramp just past Richwood. That double interstate from the river through NKY is ridiculous.

There is already a HUGE drop in elevation the last mile or so just to get to the bridge. I really think they'd have to start digging atleast a mile away if they did a tunnel.

Actually he was next to a good simaritan's car that had pulled over to try to help. They had their hazard lights on and the man was at the passenger door of the suburban thanking the person that was stopped to help when their car was struck. It's not as though they had stopped suddenly in the middle of the road. It wasn't raining this morning so it's not like the bridge should have been wet. I see no reason as to why someone shouldn't have been able to avoid hitting that chevy suburban, it's not like it's a small vehicle and hard to spot...

Thats why they are called accidents. Is there an emergency lane on this bridge? I cant remember but I did not think that there is. If not then they were in the middle of the road. It only takes a few seconds of distraction to cause a wreck.

If they were doing something reckless, by all means charge them. However its quite possible this is nothing more than what most collisions are considered...an accident.

I think you took this the wrong way from the get go my friend. I never said it was more than an accident, just said the possibility was there. My original post about charges said if he/she was speeding or distracted because of texting etc then the possibility is there. Either way it's just sad and likely could have been avoided.

Not that this pertains to the accident at all, just more of an FYI, the accident took place in the far right lane heading south bound. I had already said in another thread that the far right lane was closed off last Sunday due to standing water on the bridge. Also when the bridge was shut down for several hours on Monday it was because of potholes in the same lane and the one just to the left falling through and landing in the lower two north bound left lanes. Two pretty serious incidents in one week causing the bridge to be all but completely shut down. I think change need to be made, they are WELLL past due. I just hope that they aren't waiting for a third one before actions are taken. I road over the bridge and thought exactly what someone else said previously, this thing looks like it's ready to be fed to the river. Was on it a couple weeks ago on the motorcycle and couldn't help but want to be off of it as quickly as possible.

I never said that theres no chance the driver gets charged. Just pointed out reasons why I dont think he will.

Still not sure if it's a he/she driver to be honest. Either way it's still a tragedy and even if the driver doesn't get charged or even cleared of any wrong doing I know it will still be hard on them, at this point their family could probably use the prayers as much as any of the familes involved at this point. Just sad, I'm sure no one involved thought their day would turn out this way.

Any word if they found the man that went over the bridge?

11 o'clock news thought they had but I haven't heard any confirmation.

Thanks, if you hear anything, keep us updated.
