June 8, 201115 yr It appears that the Padres would trade Ryan Ludwick to Cincinnati for Reds outfielder Chris Heisey or prospects, according to Hal McCoy of the Dayton Daily News. Reds left fielders have combined to hit .222/.315/.385 this year, while Ludwick has a .256/.327/.402 line. Heisey, 26, has a .281/.345/.438 line in 110 plate appearances this year and has played all three outfield positions. I don't see this as improving the team...I really don't like Ludwick and Heisey could proably be just as good, nobody knows...Prospects maybe I guess depends on who...He could maybe put up huge numbers in Great American Smallpark but he seems to be washed up...

Away from Petco this year, Ludwick is hitting .313-4-22 in 99 at-bats. He's hitting just .208 in home games. In 2010, Ludwick hit .200 in Petco ... away from there, he was .264-13-58 in 390 at-bats.

Yea I didn't think about Petco factor...I said at GABP he could put up huge numbers...The more I think about it with Heisey never getting a legitamate shot I would trade him straight up for Ludwick rather than prospects...Just a question here tell me if I am wrong, but wouldn't your average go up since the gaps are bigger at Petco and only your power numbers drop?

Why trade a prospect rather than an OF who doesn't play much for an outfielder that would start for the.Reds...Heisey willbe competing with Alonso, Crazier and Sappelt and it appears will never get an everyday shot anyways...So why trade a prospect who someday might ha e a chance to play...

Ludwick with St.Louis before playing Home games at Petco...14 hrs, 52 rbi, .267 avg in 120 gms...37 hrs, 113 rbi and a. 299 avg...22 hrs, 97 rbi and a .265 avg and last year in 77 gms with stl 11 hrs, 43 rbi and a. 281 avg...No offense to Gomes he has had decent years but Ludwick looks way better in the 5 hole in the order...

Obviously if I were in a position to be making this trade I'd be utilizing Heisey a bit more. I also said it depends on the prospect. I obviously wouldn't trade Alonso for Ludwick, for example. And if I were running things, Jonny Gomes wouldn't be playing left field, he'd be wearing the Gapper's costume, driving around on that go-cart, and shooting t-shirts into the crowd. And if he does a really good job I might let him be Mr. Redleg a few nights. A more appropriate role for a guy batting below the Mendoza line.
June 9, 201115 yr Heisey is 6 years younger with a ton of upside. I say you stick with him. I still don't think that Heisey is utilized in the lineup as much as he should be, but that's just me.
June 9, 201115 yr Not a fan at all. I like Heisey. It's a shame Dusty apparently doesn't have the same feelings about him or he wouldn't have him languishing on the bench most of the time.
