As a Christian, if he believes that drinking a beer leads to more beers which leads to drunkenness (and I don't think we can dispute what scripture says on drunkenness) then he believes even the outward appearance of one beer, while not in and of itself wrong according to scripture, brings reproach upon Christ. And it may be a stumbling block for someone else. I get that. Maybe ref can provide clarity, but that's what I took from that exchange.

If you were a recovering alcoholic you might. And that's your logic. Not everyone reasons the same way. Again, I understand his point.

I wont be a hypocrite, I have drank before and I do go to church. I would not feel good with sitting down with my preacher and drinking a beer or would I feel good knowing my preacher is watching me drink a beer on TV.

 

It is not setting a good example IMO.

 

If the President wants to drink, then fine, dont do it openly and set a bad example. But that is my opinion on the matter.

I understand that some believe drinking is OK, which I do on an occasion, but not for the world to see me. I still feel convicted after I did it though, which I am glad I have conviction in my heart.

Unless you think that the President is pounding down a six pack, do you really believe that having a beer or even two is a mind altering experience. With your stance I'm guessing that you havent' drank or do not drink often, but a couple of beers is not going to cause and adult to enter a mind altering condition. Really how is a couple of beers any different than taking so Nyquill if the POTUS would get the flu. Is he not supposed to do that either.

 

And as far as being a Christian and good witness to others, give me a break. Not everybody who has a beer or glass of wine, is going to get drunk. It takes much more effort than that to become intoxicated. Personally I enjoy a nice ice cold can of beer after I finish mowing on a hot summer day. If only it wasn't such a bad example for my daughters.

I know all about how much it can take to alter the mind, mine has been there many times. But I am not the President either. I guess we all have opinions on what we think is right, which is good.

How do you know he doesn't have the same convictions as you? How do you know he doesn't feel guilty and asks the Lord for forgiveness? How do you know if he even drank all of the one beer you have seen him with in each photograph? I understand your side of the beer issue but you are jumping to conclusions speculating on how much Obama is drinking and assuming he is in a mind altered state.

I hope he does have the same convictions as I , but to keep doing the same thing then it must not bother him, so he has no conviction or he would quit.
