May 24, 201115 yr Never had any problems with Jelly fish. The water was more turbulent last year than in the past. Just something about waves at a beach that I like. The Gulf is like a big bath tub It seems like every time I went to the Atlantic side I got stung by a Jelly Fish. I have never been stung on the Gulf Side..I personally like the white sand and blue water..

I agree the gulf coast has more of a tropical feel to it with the white sand and very blue warm waters...The Atlantic side reminds me more of one of the great lakes than an ocean and the water is about as pretty as the ohio river...
May 24, 201115 yr Author It's looking like PCB again. We really wanted somewhere different, but after consideration, the extra drive wasn't really worth it this time around. My little one hates car drives. PCB has better rates for being right on the beach. As far as gulf versus Atlantic, we highly prefer the gulf side too.
May 25, 201115 yr Stayed there one night last week while waiting for a cruise ship. It would have been pretty nice, if not for it being Love Bug season. Never heard of those before, wish I hadn't discovered what they were the hard way. It's May, Love Bug season. To make a note for the future, they come back in October, too. They can wreck a paint job and there's nothing like riding into a cloud of them on a motorcycle, especially with no helmet.

That makes sense. If you look it from my point of view, when living in the tropics, the Great Lakes look great to you. BTW, having lived on Lake Michigan, the Atlantic Ocean has never reminded me of that body of water. Not even on a calm east coast day.
June 10, 201115 yr Sounds like a bunch of you have never been to South Beach its the nicest beach and clearest water. Plus the beach is topless!
June 11, 201115 yr Sounds like a bunch of you have never been to South Beach its the nicest beach and clearest water. Plus the beach is topless! As far as going to the nicest beach, South Beach is nothing compared to the Siesta Key area. Not even close.
June 11, 201115 yr As far as going to the nicest beach, South Beach is nothing compared to the Siesta Key area. Not even close. All I can say is I am lucky my cousin lives in West Palm Beach on the inter coastal a hour from Miami and I can come down there anytime I want so nothing gets better than that.
June 12, 201115 yr SanDestin resort in Destin is my favorite place in the US. Haven't been in about 10 years but used to go about 8 times. Used to go on spring break with the kids to the Hilton in SanDestin. You are right....good spot and a lot going on for the kids.
June 12, 201115 yr I spent the first five years of my life living in Miami on the Atlantic coast of Florida. Now, I have very much enjoyed vacationing in Vero Beach or Delray Beach. Honestly, I have enjoyed Sarasota, Clearwater, and Naples on the Gulf coast just as much. In my opinion, during the month of January and February, any town in Florida sure beats a gray Lexington! I am not that picky.
June 12, 201115 yr Author Anyone been or heard of the Pelican Beach Resort in Destin? I stayed there about 14 years ago.
