Riverbend Concert Advice

My son (23) and a group of friends are going to the Jason Aldean show next weekend and it is their 1st time in the area. What is the closest good Hotel? Also, they want to go to the Downtown Covington area after the show for a drink or two. So what do you guys suggest? Thanks for any input you may have.

If they are going to Covington they might as well stay in Covington. They could stay at the Clarion which is about a block from Mainstrasse Village. If they don't want to stay at the Clarion there is a Holiday Inn right down the street also. Mainstrasse is where the night life is in Covington. There are probably 8-10 bars in that little area..

Thanks, I'll have him check that out.

I have to agree that Mainstrasse is the place to be. My personal favorite is Dee Felice, if your son likes jazz. My son (22) likes to go to Pachinko's, a bar on Mainstrasse. Seems to be where the young folk hang out. Holiday Inn is in walking distance.

Just tell your son to be careful. There is a fair amount of crime in Covington.

This doesn't relate to any of the things you want to know but my best Riverbend advice is go with the lawn seats. Always a good time on the lawn. :D

Now, I know I am an older patron of Riverbend, but I like a seat. From what I have seen of the lawn people, most of them are too drunk to even know who is performing.

The lawn seats are great. Good atmosphere and a lot of entertainment.

I'm surprised MJ hasn't picked up on this yet. I'm trying to get off work for this as well. Where's your son from? As far as hotels, honestly I would say just go with the cheapest, not like they'll remember what they slept on.... I live about 20 minutes from the concert area and they are honestly fine staying in just about any hotel in NKY in my opinon.

No worries...MJ is here and will be in the lawn for the Jason Aldean concert as well. I am definitely looking forward to the concert, going to be a great time espeically if the weather forecast stays about the same. The lawn is where its at for your son for sure, great atmosphere for a "younger crowd". I would definitely recommend staying in Covington as well if that is where they are wanting to go after. My personal favorite establishment down there would probably be Strausshause (spelling). They usually have live music and a patio area if its nice out.

I would say that is pretty accurate of some of the concert attendees in the lawn.

They are from Frankfort and Lexington sportsfan41. Would they be better staying in Newport instead? Thanks for the input BGP. Not sure about their tickets, I'll ask.

I personally prefer Newport over Covington as far as the bar scene, but as long as they are in the "bar district", I don't think they'd have any problem. I've stayed in the hotels (specifically the Holiday Inn others have mentioned). There is a White Castle and Waffle House just outside the hotel too if they need some late night grub haha!

I'll be there as well, are they in the lawn?

Yes.

Would they be better off in Newport?

I would have to disagree with MJ. I like Covington better than Newport. A lot more places to choose from. As far as crime is concerned, he just needs to be aware. I wouldnt walk alone, even as a guy to my hotel. The area surrounding Mainstrasse is not so good. As long as they stay together and aren't looking for trouble, they should be fine. As I mentioned before, my son goes down there a lot.

I dont know if you have seen it, but the Clarioin is a circular hotel with a revolving restaurant on the top. I heard they have a great brunch. It is kind of famous around here because it looks like a giant electric hair curler (NOT for it's beauty). Dont know what rooms cost, but it would be nice if they got one with a view of Cincinnati.

We have tickets for the concert as well (seats!), but due to a conflict my son is taking the tickets.

Your son may want to check with Riverbend, or perhaps MJ can help with this. I am a fairly frequent visitor to Riverbend, and I have noticed that at one concert, people were not allowed to bring even blankets, must less chairs in. I haven't seen this enforced lately. Is this enforced when too may lawn tickets are sold?

Also, tell your son that if he is planning on sneaking alcohol in, he better be creative. They search people, especially the younger folks very thoroughly!
