May 16, 201115 yr Author I would have to disagree with MJ. I like Covington better than Newport. A lot more places to choose from. As far as crime is concerned, he just needs to be aware. I wouldnt walk alone, even as a guy to my hotel. The area surrounding Mainstrasse is not so good. As long as they stay together and aren't looking for trouble, they should be fine. As I mentioned before, my son goes down there a lot. I dont know if you have seen it, but the Clarioin is a circular hotel with a revolving restaurant on the top. I heard they have a great brunch. It is kind of famous around here because it looks like a giant electric hair curler (NOT for it's beauty). Dont know what rooms cost, but it would be nice if they got one with a view of Cincinnati. We have tickets for the concert as well (seats!), but due to a conflict my son is taking the tickets. Your son may want to check with Riverbend, or perhaps MJ can help with this. I am a fairly frequent visitor to Riverbend, and I have noticed that at one concert, people were not allowed to bring even blankets, must less chairs in. I haven't seen this enforced lately. Is this enforced when too may lawn tickets are sold? Also, tell your son that if he is planning on sneaking alcohol in, he better be creative. They search people, especially the younger folks very thoroughly! Thanks so much Beechwoodfan. The group is 6 couples total. The Hotel you describe here is not called Clarion when we look it up, it's The Radisson now I think. Thanks again.
May 16, 201115 yr Author Come on BGP. I know there is a ton of you from this area. Should they stay in Covington or Newport? Nice Hotel within walking distance to safely go out after the Concert? Etc...
May 16, 201115 yr Now, I know I am an older patron of Riverbend, but I like a seat. From what I have seen of the lawn people, most of them are too drunk to even know who is performing. I'm with you, grandma.
May 16, 201115 yr Come on BGP. I know there is a ton of you from this area. Should they stay in Covington or Newport? Nice Hotel within walking distance to safely go out after the Concert? Etc... It just depends on where they're looking to go out afterwards. If they're hitting up Mainstrauss, Covington is practical as it's walking distance. If they're going to hit up the bars down at the Levee, then Newport is practical.
May 16, 201115 yr I personally prefer Newport over Covington as far as the bar scene, but as long as they are in the "bar district", I don't think they'd have any problem. I've stayed in the hotels (specifically the Holiday Inn others have mentioned). There is a White Castle and Waffle House just outside the hotel too if they need some late night grub haha! I agree. Plenty of hotels in Covington along the river. The Newport on the Levee has a lot of places to go, such as Hofbrau Haus, they could just take a very short cab ride over to the levee, I don't think it will be even $10 each way. But, if they don't want to go to the Levee they are just a couple of blocks walking distance from the Mainstrasse area, but personally I like the Levee area in Newport. Just as anywhere else these days, as long as people are aware of their surroundings there isn't too much of an issue. I never have any issues. But if you are stumbling around, alone, you are a target, but that is true ANYWHERE!
May 16, 201115 yr Hotel's in Covington along the river: Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, Courtyard, Extended Stay America, Radisson, Marriott, Embassy Suites. Hampton is more west than the others. Holiday Inn, Courtyard, Extended Stay America, Radisson are just a couple of blocks away from Mainstrasse. Hampton, Marriott, Embassy Suites are about 4-5 blocks way. All are about a $10 taxi ride to the Newport Levee.

They don't know the area at all, and were just trying to decide between staying in Covington or staying in Newport.
May 16, 201115 yr Both are about a 15 minute taxi to Riverbend.... Maybe when there isn't a soldout concert.
May 16, 201115 yr Maybe when there isn't a soldout concert. True. Sorry should have said about a 8-10 mile taxi ride...
May 16, 201115 yr True. Sorry should have said about a 8-10 mile taxi ride... Just didn't want them to be disgruntled or worse late to part of the concert when they were stuck in traffic on 275.
