Thought about leaving but he really enjoys UK. Glad he didn't leave before he got a shot at playing time.

I wish he would have went to WKU and ran wild on UK the first game to prove he is the best. :D

Last year somebody on here said Miles would never see the field. Looks like he will get plenty of playing time this year and probably start next year!

I also said he'd never play RB in the SEC......let's wait to see just how much field he'll see. You shouldn't get upset when people call a spade, a spade.

I played strong safety at 6'2, 240lbs.....he'll need to add a lot of mass this year.

Simpson is probably over 220 pounds right now.

It depends on what you can carry. 240 is huge for a safety. If they are asking him to play near the line, then maybe, but 220 is still plenty big for a safety. The Bengals biggest safety is 222.

The biggest strong safety in the 2011 Pro Bowl was Adrian Wilson at 230lbs.

David Fulcher of the Bengals carried between 235 - 240....but that was a long time ago.

Generally the best athletes on the team/field are playing safety. Everything you stated describing RB is used to describe a safety with one difference that safeties are bigger.

You need a different kind of athleticism to play RB or CB. Safeties have to be great athletes, especially in the SEC but they don't have to be as quick-twitch as a RB or Safety would be. Guys that are a little bigger don't have as quick of feet or hips in general and that's part of (but not all) of what separates a S from a CB. Not saying some RBs wouldn't be good safeties or some safeties wouldn't be good RBs but it's usually not hard for college coaches to distinguish who should play on which side of the ball. JMO

I always referred to myself as a good athlete. That being said, I was never in the same league as some of our specialists on our team....I could run pretty good, jump surprisingly high, and could push some weight. I was never going to win a lateral type of drill, etc....heck, I still returned my fair share of kicks.....that being said, Miles seems to be in the same breath I was, I personally don't view it as bad.

What's The latest on Miles? Will he have a breakout year in 2011 on Defense?

What's The latest on Miles? Will he have a breakout year in 2011 on Defense?

I'd say he's got a pretty good shot, my only question about him on defense is whether or not he has the desire for it. I hope he does but we will see.

Why would you question his desire? He played RB, Safety and all of the special teams in highschool. On punt defense he would rush the punter and he would always run over the back blocking behind the line.

What does that even mean. I feel like you have never met Miles, becuse if you have you would realize the desire question is a good one. He is a really good guy, but doesn't always seem like defense, and sometimes football for that matter, is top on the list. Like earlier said in different context, call spade a spade.

Here is the latest about Miles Simpson from Rick Minters.

Love the sound of this.

-Neloms needs to add 8-10 lbs before the season

-Cobble is doing "excellent" academically and is on schedule as far as rehab

-Rock is getting it done

-Huzzie is getting healed and doing well

-Avery Williamson is a "leader in the weight room", a may evolve into a team leader and great player

-Will try everything possible to get a pass rush

-He absolutely glowed about McDermott

-Minter states that he's a 4-3 guy first and foremost, but understands that opponents run a bunch of different offenses that need to taken into account.

-Miles Simpson is pushing Guy. "Really going to be a very, very bright spot for the Wildcats if not now then soon"

-Minter loves blitzing. Not just for pass rush, but for stopping the run.

-Stated that one of the biggest challenges is the lack of instate talent.

-Wants 20-25 kids on the team from Ohio eventually. Cinci, Dayton, etc has too good of talent not to recruit. He's going to sell UK and the SEC up there.
