April 2, 201115 yr Might be straightline fast enough, but to play RB you have to have a really quick change of direction, good hips, excellent vision, good side to side quickness. The fact that he got moved to safety rather than corner, is probably an indicator that he did not have the athleticism to play RB, I would guess. I have not seen him play live, but that would be my guess. How big is he? That may have alot to do with Safety vs. Corner. But alot of the same athleticism you need for RB in the SEC is what it takes for Corner, though most corners have more speed than the majority of RBs out there. But I will say this, as a former RB if he can catch on at Safety he could be a real player. Lot's of good safeties were converted RBs. He's 6'2" 210 with the frame to be much larger. #32 in the picture. http://media.247sports.com/Uploads/Boards/987/2987/87341.jpg

He nailed a TE over the middle on one play can't wait to watch him catch a Gator over the middle. He has plenty of quickness and speed he was covering who ever was in the slot on alot of passing downs.
April 24, 201115 yr Miles Simpson had 2 tackles and a quarter back hurry in the spring game. How many yards rushing? Just playing UKfan.....
April 24, 201115 yr Author How many yards rushing? Just playing UKfan..... If the coaches where smart they would put him back at running back!
April 24, 201115 yr If the coaches where smart they would put him back at running back! UKfan, I know I might be dreamin', but why couldn't they use him in the red zone as RB or in some other short yardage situation if needed?
April 25, 201115 yr Author UKfan, I know I might be dreamin', but why couldn't they use him in the red zone as RB or in some other short yardage situation if needed? I totally agree. Simpson is already better than Gainer at running back. Gainer has been fumbling the football like crazy in spring practice. Miles only had like 3 fumbles in high school.

Generally the best athletes on the team/field are playing safety. Everything you stated describing RB is used to describe a safety with one difference that safeties are bigger.
April 25, 201115 yr Author Simpson was fast enough to catch Sanders and tackle him so speed is not the question.
April 25, 201115 yr Simpson was fast enough to catch Sanders and tackle him so speed is not the question. Raymond Sanders ran 4.65 this spring at Pro Day, so you are gonna have to impress me with someone else that Miles has run down. Miles Simpson needs to be very happy to play the "Hybrid" defensive position. It gives him a chance to further his football career after college. He would not have that opportunity at running back. He has what it takes to have a very nice career at UK.....on the defensive side of the football.
April 28, 201115 yr Author Great article about Miles in the newspaper today. I can't find the link though.
April 28, 201115 yr Hopefully Miles sticks with the position change and really digs in and does everything he can to help himself out and help the team out. Really reminds me of when David Jones went from corner to wide out after his frosh season because he wanted to play offense, never really got into the rotation that much then ended up back on the defensive side of the ball as a senior. You would have to think if he stayed in the secondary the whole time he would have seen a lot more playing time and would have helped the team out even more than he did.
