And I see no reason why anyone involved wouldn't want to support SV football, although we're somewhat familiar with not having board support. Apparently football, in general, is just not a popular sport for very many parents or students, and that's too bad for those who are willing to work at it!

It's the most frustrating thing you can imagin,get this,The head coach was told that he couldn't hold the football banquet at the school unless it was to include all other fall sports....now that's the kind of support that the present administration gives to football.Don't get me wrong, we do have a very good booster's club,not very many members, but still the few that are involved do alot to help the players and coaches,but that's the only support the team gets.I'm so tired of beating a dead horse though,it will never get better until the present administration is gone. This isn't a big secret...they may be great educators,who knows, but as far as supporting a football program they are at the very bottom of the totum pole in pike county.

Sv is a basketball school it may never change. It is the same thing for UK it is a basketball school. But i know that SV always has a descent crowd at footballgames and the reason SV did get a last seed in the playoffs is because they are a young team. They start a sophmore quarterback.

To say that Belfry was on the back burner for things in atheletics and school is a joke!!!!!!!!!!!! Ask any on that is in pike county that is in the school system and they will tell you Belfry!!!!!!!! Where is the Superintendant from and were is his assistant from?

I guess that bringing Ben Howard in wasn't part of the plan from them! Yeah right! I guess shipping David Osborne to East Ridge wasn't their plan either! I guess offering Greg Napier a principal job wasn't part of the plan. I guess making a promise to Greg Newsome so he wouldn't apply for the job at valley wasn't in the palns either! All done to make sure that quailfed people wouldn't interview for the job so that Ben Howard was going to get it and then it blew up in their faces like a atomic bomb!!! How in the world could you not give it to someone like Donnie Daniels? Ben had never had any experience being a head coach. Now I think that the choice will be made by the site base and the principal. Look for someone to be hired that no one knows that is even going to apply. I love secrets

Keep looking to the outside for someone to blame and you will keep missing the mark.

 

Things will not improve until the supporters of SV athletics decide to look hard at the real problems and address them at the root, internally. Find out where the problems originate and make enough stink until they are addressed.

 

Blaming the BOE or for goodness sakes, another school in the county is a little misguided and a lot far fetched.

 

The site based council and the Principal do the hiring at the school and they are trusted to hire the best applicant for each job using an equitable process. If they have been shirking that duty to play politics, then you have your starting point.

Glad to see that someone else knows what goes on in Pike Co. Some people only see what they what. I know all about the Donnie Daniels deal, but this is not the place to discuss that. Donnie would have made them a heck of a coach!!!! :flame:

Like Ive said before. People for the most part (and more importantly those in power) do not want a good football team at SV because it would take away too much from B-Ball. And the SV suppoters (appoligists) have been content to blame Pikeville over the years for their football woes. I guess now their blaming Belfry. GIMMIE A BREAK!!!!!!!! If they would just cut football at that school and be done with it instead of going through this sad charade every year it would be more honorable.

They wouldnt even give Hillard the head coahcing position. He was offensive coordinator and Napier had the final say on what plays were run. So here was a coach who won 3 state championships having to answer to a guy who, from my understanding played half of his senior year in football and that is the only football experience he had. The reason for all this was that Napier was part of the "good ole boy" network and Hillard was an outsider.

Dont think you can say anything about superintendents from an area showing it special attention. Larry Burke, Reo Johns,and Alvin Newsome controlled the board for many years and look what all Virgie and Shelby Valley got during that time while schools like Millard and Feds Creek didnt get hardly anything during that time.
