Any idea who might step in here? I am hearing Ben Howard as a possible candidate.

Wow....

Talk about deja vu all over again !!!

:creepy:

I don't believe it will be Ben Howard but I do hope he gets another chance at SV or another school because I believe he would be a very good young coach.

I would think that the SV head coaching job would be the 3rd best in Pike County behind Belfry and Pikeville. They should be able to hire a good coach. SV can be a good program IMO if they get the kids to come out for football, have community support like basketball, and they get a good coaching staff.

Many schools could be good if they had all of the above mentioned elements.

I.M.O. if possible I think the best way for this school to shake off the past is to start anew and bring in someone from as far away as they can, and then let this coach and the new staff he brings in be in complete control of the football program from the lower grades up to the varsity. From the little I know about this area it appears that there are only two schools in Pike County when it comes to football. I figure a coach from out of the area can over turn this perception and even make the young men who go out for the team believe that they can not only compete with the big two in Pike County, but with any team they come up against. Right now I.M.O. this is far from happening.

How about Bill Mason from Nelson County?

I think Shelby Valley is NOT an attractive job. Not exactly the best support for football and too much bickering, and not enough improving going on for my taste.

Too much poltics in Pike Co.,and especially Shelby Valley. The powers that be are not going to help anyone who tries to beat the big red.

That is true...

Too much poltics in Pike Co.,and especially Shelby Valley. The powers that be are not going to help anyone who tries to beat the big red.
Then if at all possible the powers to be should be outed. It appears to me that when I do make my visit there that there are a lot of things that people doesn’t like, but I never hear nothing about anyone trying to change things. Again I’m only down there once a year. Now if I ever hit the lotto, I will have a place down there.

So the powers that be are just holding Shelby Valley down to protect Belfry? Hilarious.

If you are looking for the blame for Shelby Valley's past problems, you don't have to venture off campus.

No, Belfry does not need any help. (I have alot of respect for Coach Haywood) I guess I should have just said poltics in general, because they usually do not help anyone but Belfry.

There seems to be alot of problems at Valley in Particular (girls B-ball last year?, and getting rid of one of the best young boys b-ball coaches in eastern Ky. a couple of years ago) The powers that be should step in and stop whatever the problem.

If that were true, which it is not, then the other districts in the county need to be breathing down the necks of their school board representative.

The entire Pike County School Systems is currently under the best leadership in its history. Look at the educational and fiscal improvements and the improvement of the quality of the entire system under Mr Welch's leadership. Call the Education Commissioner, Mr Wilhoit, and ask him his thoughts on the "powers that be" in the Pike Co Schools System.

I disagree entirely with your assessment. Belfry has commonly been last in line for any imrovements, their new school included. Everyone else had newer facilities, newer classrooms, more up to date technology, newer everything than Belfry until recently. Belfry finally gets a new school and suddenly the "powers that be" don't help anyone but Belfry.

As for the Shelby Valley situation, their actions and decisions, internally, have been suspect. If they aren't doing what is best, or if their decisions are coming back to bite them, why would you want the "powers that be" at the BOE to step in and do something? Not only would that be illegal politics, but it would put the important decisions you are concerned about in the hands of the very people you accuse of helping only Belfry and turning their backs on the other schools. I can't imagine why you'd want that?
