I'm extremely surprised some of you are picking LC by so much.

 

Dixie is a very good team whose guards will pose a problem to the LC guards. Their big men, Pike and Stansberry are versatile enough to handle the LC press. And Dixie has a lot of depth with Evans, Muntis, Cohorn, and even Bruns off the bench.

 

If I remember correctly, a lot were picking LC big over Holmes in the 08 state tourney...we all remember how that one turned out.

 

Go make history Colonels and silence all the doubters.

 

Not sure what LC will roll out size wise, but Dixie will look like this, for those who haven't seen them:

Although I think Dixie is a solid team and I hope they win, they should not be compared to the Holmes team from '08 yet, they are not as good as that team. I'm not sure Lex Cath was as good either. Holmes played the best game they had all year against Lex Cath in that quarter final match. With that being said, can Dixie surprise them, yes they can. There is not a huge significant difference in talent, but Lex Cath has more. Remember, Dixie is a young team that should be the favorite in the 9the for a couple of more years. Is their mindset, we're happy to be here or we can win this thing. I'm sure they want to, but this is a BIG Stage with more fans than they have probably played before. I will say this, I think the neutral fans will root for Dixie, because the rest of the state likes to root against Louisville/Lexington teams. Remember Holmes mindset was very different in '08 they had lost in the finals and semis in back to back years. They were sure they could compete and went in with only a state championship in mind, anything less would have been a disappointment to them. Lex Cath has players that havebeen on this stage with more experience, you have to take that into consideration. My heart wants Dixie to win, my head says Lex Cath by 10. I hope I am wrong on this.

Lex Cath by double digits. Saw cath on wazoo last night,looked very impressive. Have not seen Dixie but I have seen New Cath. L.C. will be a very tough out.

Flotsam....you're so wrong in saying that about UK#1fan....it ain't just the Bludbird fans he drives crazy. I'll agree with you on the other though.....hope Dixie's season doesn't end with Lex Cath. :popcorn:

Contrary to what others have said, I think Lex Cath weakness is their half court defense. Not saying it is bad....just they tend to "rest up" thinking they can play average defense but beat you with their outstanding offense. Works most of the time!!!

 

I think Dixie will be able to take advantage of this and use their passing/driving offense to get Lex Cath in some foul trouble by reaching/slapping on defense rather than moving. If Dixie can get Martin and Schutte some time on the bench, they can pull an upset. Bottom line is Dixie keeps it close, but Lex Cath offense is a little too strong. Lex Cath by 6.

Trust me BM, I'm in no way comparing this Dixie team to the 08 Bulldogs. That Holmes team would beat this Dixie team by 10+ for the simple fact that Arrez Henderson would absolutely lock Hatton down. As for the comment about LC, the 08 version was #1 in the state when Holmes beat them. That team was much bigger and more talented than this years LC team. I think their front line went 6'6, 6'7, 6'8 with a couple D1 players.

 

I think these two teams match up better than some think. Hatton will be the best player on the floor...I can almost guarantee that.

The key for Dixie may be how much Hatton is able to get his hands on the ball. Brandon was only able to score 8 against Holy Cross in large part because he didn't handle the ball a lot against HC's press which forced 26 turnovers. I don't want to make a prediction. I will be happy sitting back watching the game and rooting for the Colonels.

I have seen both play and the LexCath "D" is one of the best in the State and their press is a thing of beauty. They have been to Rupp and that's a huge advantage with all the excitement, hoopla and press running around the players.

 

I would love to see Dixie win, but this LexCath team has a real shot at winning the Sweet Sixteen and maybe, if this were the second or even the third game of the Sweet Sixteen then it might be a different story but Dixie at this point is just happy to be there while LexCath is on a mission to win it all.

 

LexCath by a least 12 or maybe more and I honestly hope I am wrong! Go Red Colonels!!!

 

I can't disagree with your statement about their 2-2-1, and in my opinion it works well in high school because normally high school teams do not have a full compliment of ball handlers, and do not have a good press break strategy. High school kids panic against this press. Madison Central had a great run in the region, but ball handling against pressure was a weakness in my opinion. I have also seen Dixie play and I think their ball handling is much better. All it takes to beat Catholic's 2-2-1 is a good press break strategy, patience, and being strong with the ball. if Dixie can beat the press consistently and finish strong with layups by Pike on the back end they should have no problem competing with Lexington Catholic.

Dixie in a very close game. I am hoping the Red Colonels will advance and continue to represent the ninth region.

Are you talking the runner up team or the championship team? I get confused sometimes. With Henderson I believe it had to be the runner-up team. Was that the semi-final game? I remember the championship team destroying Lex Cath in the quarters. That Lex Cath team had two sophomores starting that will start as seniors now. I honestly can say I haven't seen Lex Cath, but they do have more experience. Dixie reminds me of the Shelby Valley 09 team that lost to Elliott Co. in the quarters. Very talented, Justice a soph. as others, just inexperienced. I think Dixie will be a force the next couple of years (top ten in state), just not quite ready yet. I hope I'm wrong, but it is tough with their youth. The thing about it though, is there is no guarantee they will get bak. They should, but sometimes it doesn't happen. The 9th is a tough region.

Dixie had an opportunity to play in scrimmage at Rupp back in November.

 

Although this will be a entirely different atmosphere, maybe that little experience will somehow pay dividends for the Colonels......:idunno:
