Boone Dixie match up right after the NCC/Ryle pics.

I thought Dixie did a great job defending the paint. Boone's guards scored 17 above their average while their post players were way under their average for the season. I have a question about Dixie, how often do they leave the lane unoccupied when they are shooting free throws? They did that more than a few times tonight and I'm puzzled as to why?

 

They did it Thursday night too. It's dumb if you ask me. You put added pressure on your shooter IMO.

I thought it was strange, in a close game you'd think the opportunity to grab an offensive rebound off a miss would be a plus. It's not like they couldn't rebound with the BC bigs.

From the "we'll never know" file I would like to have seen Boone in the tourney with Montgomery healthy.

I wasn't at the game and I have had my doubts about Dixie... apparently they are the real deal... my props go to dixie!

Absolutely Clyde. Boone has weaknesses that can be exploited without Montgomery. Put Montgomery out there with Downs, Stanley, Brown and Crabtree and Boone can go man to man with anyone in the region. Without him, they have to mix and match the other guys in to the situation they are in. A good coach can take advantage of Boone's weaknesses without Montgomery. But as you say, we will never know.

 

Dixie played great defense and that is what won them the game, because Boone's defense was equally good. I think Stansberry was the key to the game. Pike muscled with Brown all night and Stansberry was right there to help out any time there was the slightest opening. When Boone tried to use Crabtree down low to open things up for Brown, Stansberry handled Crabtree pretty easily on his own. Key play, in the last minute Boone had the ball down 3 and ran a nice play to get Crabtree isolated in the post. But Stansberry had handled Crabtree all night, including a couple of blocks so Crabtree kicked the ball back out and Boone ended up turning the ball over. Crabtree has to muscle up and take the ball to the rim - get the bucket and/or a foul.

 

The posters above are talking about the defense Trammel played but how about the defense Boone put on Trammel and Hatton. It was a defensive war tonight. And I may be wrong but I believe Boone's guards of Downs and Stanley ended up outscoring Hatton and Trammel. Downs had several key baskets in the final 5 minutes that almost won this one for Boone. But it wasn't the guards that decided this one. As I said above, the key matchup that decided this game was Crabtree vs. Stansberry. Stansberry won that match and Dixie gets the win.

 

As to Stansberry getting hit on the head and no foul call, well the exact same thing happened in the first game to Geisler. He got hit and went down but no foul call. That stuff happens in basketball, especially in physical games like we saw tonight.

 

Dixie is the best all around team in the region. But New Cath has no doubt Player of the Year Geisler and Hightchew, whose combination of strength and speed are unmatched in the region. Those two are so good they just may lead NCC to the title. I will stick with my pick of Dixie but Pike better stay on the floor or New Cath will walk off with Dixie's title.

And one of them came immediately after Crabtree kicked the ball out and passed up a one on one shot in the low post.

Trammel played awesome defense tonight! He guarded Downes the first half and held him to 2 points. Stanley had 12 points in the first half so Coach Chevalier had Trammel guard Stanley the second half. I believe Stanley had 0 points in the second half and that's when Downs got the rest of his points when Trammel wasn't guarding him.

Pike's defensive effort was great tonight. He beat Brown to the spot almost every time. Very rarely was he able to get position on the box. It got him frustrated late as he threw an elbow towards Pike's groin that wasn't seen by the refs, and then on the next possession, he clotheslined Trammel. I was very surprised an intentional foul was not called. It happened so fast, it was hard to tell if he even made an attempt at the ball. As for the officials, they let the kids play, which I personally like.

 

Give me a break! Brown and Pike played aggressive all night with each other and still were best of friends after the game. Don't try to make it sound like dirty play. Trammels drive down the middle was a foul, but definitely not intent to harm. Even you yourself said you could not see if an attempt at the ball was made, so why make such a bogus post? Dixie played an excellent game tonight and deserved the win. I'm sure if it was an intentional clothesline one of the 3 refs would have made the call.

I thought Dixie's defense was the key in this one.

Really nice night by Stansberry on the boards and came up with some nice blocks as well.

 

Pike really turned things up tonight against Brown....that's the key to beating Boone imo.

That is about as correct as it can get. When teams focus on stopping Brown, the other two bigs have to step up. IMO Stanley and Downs were not shut down by Dixie's defense as someone stated earlier. They were able to get to the basket on occasions but not at will.

Thanks for the great pics as always. Check out photo 81 of 200, Highchew with a knee in the back of the Ryle player on the ground. Looks like a football game.

Trammel plays outstanding defense.

 

Still trying to figure out how the foul on Trammel late in the game wasn't intentional. He got closelinedcand grabbed around the neck by the Boone defender

 

Here's hoping that he doesn't come out a little stiff after the fall. His defense on Downs and then Stanley was outstanding and today he will have to be at his best on Hightchew.
