By the way, was there an announcement as to why Prewitt was re-entering?

MAYSVILLE, Ky. - Pendleton County's Mason Monroe scored a game-high 31 points and hit five free throws in the game's final minute to seal the Wildcats' 74-70 overtime win over Montgomery County in the 10th Region quarterfinals on Thursday night.

Monroe, who shot 10-of-14 from the floor and 10-of-13 from the line, sank one of two free throws with 23 seconds left in overtime to put Pendleton up, 71-68. After Montgomery responded with a Jake Handshoe bucket with 20 seconds remaining, Monroe stepped to the line again, going 1-for-2 to put the Wildcats back up by two. His final free throws, with three seconds left, sealed the win.

"He's the kind of kid who wants the ball in his hands when the game's on the line," said Pendleton coach Chad Simms afterwards, "no matter what."

Earlier, in regulation and with the Wildcats holding a narrow lead, "no matter what" included getting sick. After Montgomery's super-sophomore Omar Prewitt hit a three-pointer during their 11-3 run to close regulation play and force overtime, Monroe went to the sideline and threw up in a bucket.

"I didn't think that was so good," said Simms. "I don't know it if was dehydration or what, but he went right back in."

Prewitt led Montgomery with 25 points, and one resurrection. After a miscommunication with three minutes remaining in the game, he was ruled to have fouled out. On the next dead ball, the error was cleared up and Prewitt returned with four fouls.

The Wildcats, along with Monroe's 31, got 17 points from senior forward Michael Walsh for the win. They advance to the region's semifinals on Saturday against host Mason County.

If it was not a correctable error then to me that would be the issue. Whether he had 4 or 5 doesn't matter if it is not a correctable error. He should not have been "resurrected."

Isn't Prewitt just a soph? He'll mature more and be fine, His Mom was always a class act on the floor, and a great player too.

Here's where I'm having problems reconciling this. We have the official scorer twice saying that he had trouble seeing who fouls were called on and yet he knows on this particular play that he was 100% right? It's not possible that this was one of those times he had trouble? Can we go to the tape?[/QUOTE]

We did. See Post 63.

Scorer right, officials wrong.

That's what I have said all along but no one will admit it. They put 45 on the board when the foul was called and that was what everyone saw. The stat person for MC said he never looked at the board but my son in law has kept book from those seats on the second row and he says you can't see anything from back there.

I said I had some trouble, but when we did we got it corrected right then. I had no trouble seeing on that play.

The foul in question happened right in front of the scorers table almost. The ref was standing right there on that side of the floor at midcourt. What screwed everything up was that the scoreboard had up 45 as the player on that foul and that was wrong.

Also, Please everyone the scoreboard is not official even though everyone sees it.

Walsh never "manhandled" Prewitt. His hands were straight up the entire time. Prewitt was the only one in the gym complaining that it was a foul. Walsh was just playing physical. There was nothing dirty about it.

Not what I heard. I heard that it was close to a "mugging".

Suggestion. Put the official scorer at main table. Put visiting scorer on his right, put home scorer on his left. Move all radio to the table behind the score table. There is room for PA announcer, 3 scorers, and clock operator. Last night they had 6 chairs at the table so there is plenty of room. I just think it was odd that the official scorer had five fouls and the two teams scorers had four fouls. Game is over and looking forward to next year.

DURING THE COURSE OF THE GAME:

1. The nonofficial scorers should check each entry with the official

scorebook.

2. The scorers should:

a. Announce to each other and record the total running score.

b. Announce the name and number of the player who scores.

c. Verify the scoreboard score.

d. Compare the summary of individual scores with the total

running score at the end of each half.

e. Exchange the name and number of the player committing a

foul and indicate the total fouls charged to the player.

f. Be responsible for the alternating-possession arrow.

g. Record warnings reported by an official.

3. In case of controversy, the record of the official scorebook is

accepted unless the referee has knowledge which permits him or

her to rule otherwise

Emptied.

Good piece of information Mcraycraft. Definitely would have been heipful in the game the other nite.

The official score keeper repeatedly told the officials that he had five, but some how the officials over turned it.

I was told at the game last night that Coach Griesser on his radio show with Dan Manley admitted that Prewitt no doubt had five fouls. Like I said, I thought I was right but everyone makes mistakes just ask my wife.:laugh::laugh:
