I have always felt that 9th region teams do not fare good out of the region because of a couple of different regions. The first they all grow up playing against each other through youth leagues and middle schools and they all know each other. SO they know each others tendencies and get fired up to play each other. Another reason i think they struggle is they are not use to taking long road trips. THey usually travel by car to the games with family or on a quick bus trip on roads and places they know. When they leave the region they take long bus trips and it requires you to prepare a different way and sometimes i think they come out flat. THese might just be excuses but i think they could be factors for 9th region schools.

I would be more concerned in the fact that Baker has disappeared since early January and the guards dont seem to be completely healthy. Sickness is all over the area and it isnt a 24-48 hr virus in most cases. These things can drag out trust me I am living it.

 

I think this virus that everyone seems to be getting across the 9th will be a big part of the championship this year. Players on all teams need to take precautions and avoid it.

Yes and playing hoops is a huge contributor to the spread of germs. Those balls are touching so many hands that have touched so many germy things. I just tell my son to keep his hands away from his face no matter what. Dont wipe your eyes, nose, etc. LOL

TOG...Didn't chose to ignore it but why would I comment on those teams misfortunes on a CovCath thread and I would think Holmes situation is a little different? I have been a huge supporter of CovCath on BGP all year and Jake Thelen is one of my favorite players. Just stating that I would be concerned if I were a CovCath fan.

 

As far as the officials if CovCath does make it to the regional tournament they will get the officials from that same association. Same guys who call the 10th and 11th regions.

Referees are not robots. The definition of a personal foul is a player foul which involves illegal contact with an opponent while the ball is live which hinders an opponent from performing normal defensive or offensive movements.

 

When you read that definition you should be able to deduce that its a matter of interpretation. What is illegal contact? Did it "hinder" an opponent?

 

That should answer your questions about why it's different. It's not only different among regions it's different within a region and CAN be different within a crew.

 

Regarding a "travel" that's more of a case of understanding all of the requirements. Most fans do not know those requirements. However, you will see it called inconsistently which is a problem.

Historically, officials from outside the 9th "let the kids play" much more than 9th Region officials do; this has always been a part of the theory as to why the 9th Region teams have not done well in the State Tourney.

It was a poor theory to begin with. Certainly a very outdated theory now.

Yes, The did lose this game. However there are other thngs that contributed to this loss. For one, Maschinot did not start and only played a few minutes. He was sick. Brett did not play much either. He has a sore ankle. Baker got in quick foul trouble, and he too played little minites. I do not know what Jake's minute total was, but he too did not play as many as normal. Connelly's minutes I think were down as well. Coach used the game to get others important playing time in a meaningless game. I woulda done the same thing. They did not play with the same passion and purpose they have been playing with. It was obvious to me even in warm-ups, they just wanted to get this game over with.

 

Not taking anything awa from Madison Central. They do have a good team. Thier student section was the most 'annoying' student section I think that Cov Cath has played in front of this year. There were no Crazies there, and the gym was relativel quiet. They were taunting the Colonels pretty good. Good experience for them. The other good experience that the Colonels got from this game was the officiating. Wow. I know many complain on here about the 9th region guys we have, but man, these guys from the 11th called a much different game. The crowd was getting on them pretty dang good. The colonels will learn from that as well.

 

I also think that as long as the Colonels are healthy, they will come out fired up against Holy Cross on Tuesday.

I don't think there's any question 9th call it tighter; as far as the lack of success by 9th teams, there were a lot of reasons for that.

:thumb: Agreed. Love it or hate it, it's part of the game. If you want to be a successful team or player you have to learn how to adjust to different types of officiating. You can watch games in any region and think that they are called differently but as Clyde said you have to adjust during each game.

Wow..................do the Covcath faithful think Madison Central was that inspired to play them the last game of the season? Any more so than the excuses for CovCath, did Madison Central not play under the same circumstances...................

 

Last game of the year, out of region opponent, perhaps MC played some kids more than normal and others less as well (seems reasonable given the lopsidedness of the half time score). Bottom line is there have been several games this year that flat out Covcath (for whatever reason) has not answered the bell.
