Ryle 60 Boone County 50

Featured Replies

I played and never saw or experienced booing a player like that.

Were you one of the stars or just a bench warmer :) All kidding aside it is a common occurance in all gyms...

The booing of a high school player is childish and immature. I hope the the only people acting like this were the children. Kids are going to be kids and there is very little that can be done to prevent this. The student section is always going to try to rattle the opposing players that is why the are there. It sounds like Miss Moss

handled it well, and the Ryle kids did what you expect from kids.

Agreed. I would note that Miss Moss was running her mouth after the game to the reporter, so expect more booing and even more intensity the next 2 times they play. Only game #3 counts the most. I expect Ryle to win all 3 games this year just like Boone did last year. I have no problem with fan involvement unless it is vulgar or profane. Booing is neither.

Saying "let them celebrate" and "we'll get them next time" hardly qualifies as "running her mouth."

She has 11 Region banners hanging in her gym to go along with 0 State Titles... just saying Sweeperboy.

She has more regional titles than Ryle's coach has wins against her. Ryle's lack of a coach has nothing on Nell. Finally Ryle beats Sydney. It took ya how many times to do it? Ryle has a great team. They outplayed Boone tonight. I will be absolutely stunned if Ryle makes it to one state tourny. Nell owns Nky basketball.

Actually I have coached, but regardless of how much I teach them it is up to them to execute. The players are the most important part of the equation. 70-30. If a mediocre coach has great talent, they can still win most games, but if agreat coach has mediocre talent he will bee lucky to win half of the games. Coaching is important, especially when the talent level is close to even. Nell in most cases over the years has had the most talent. Her player pool is larger than most of the schools in NKY but not down state which is where her coaching might help them one day get over the hump. In NKY she usually can rely in part on having the most talent. And I'll probably be persecuted for saying this but if she doesn't have the most talent she is very good at finding it.

Ohhhhhhh, you might want to retract that one. Ronny Dawn doesnt exactly have any superstars on his team this yr and guess what. He will definately win more then half of his games. I know what you are saying, but I guess he would be the exception to the rule with this statement.

And is the whole "really big rivalry" thing between BC and Ryle over the Moss girl transferring or just because they share neighborhoods which can get it going real good. Sorta like the old Highlands vs NewCath rivalry.

It has long been a neighborhood thing, Ryle being carved out of Boone County HS back in the 90's. When it comes to athletics, Ryle has been a kid sister to BC. They've caught up in many ways finally - football for instance. The two schools are closely interconnected. Many Ryle parents are BC grads with mixed loyalties. With Oliverio being at RYLE after being a long time softball/BB coach at Boone, and now you have the star BB player for BC who once wore orange for the Raiders... it makes it interesting for fans of girls BB.

I definately liked the old NCC-HHS rivalry. We were witness to a few very hotly contested games over the last few years. as for Ron winningmost of his games I think Ron would agree he has over the years and does have a little more than mediocre players. The three starting Sr. guards are very skilled players and he has a nice group of girls supporting them. Ron would be the first to tell you without the players there is little a coach can do. Ron does however know how to coach to his teams strengths and is a very good leader, but once the ball goes up in the air it is for the mos part up to the players.

I just found out that NCC has been Knocked out of the ALL A tourney. I am sorry to here that I know the girls played their hearts out

bc dad, your passion and enthusiasm for your school and head coach is outstanding. She is outstanding and has been for a long time. However, what is your problem with Coach O? It seems to be personal. She has only been a head coach for not even three years so your stat of having more regional championships than wins against her really does not make sense nor is it relevant. I am a fan of both teams and programs. It was a great night for Northern Kentucky High School Girls Basketball last night and i am looking forward to a possible rematch. I know one thing, BC better solve that dribble drive spread offense that was on display last night or the margin of W's and L's may get abit tighter between the two programs in the next couple of years. I am sure if the schools meet again, the game will be close.

Both are great programs and should be feared across the state let alone NKY for that matter. There is no doubt that the BC area is a dominating force in NKY regarding Girls BB, I respect the heck out of both programs or I wouldnt be talking about ya. LOL. You know the sayin......

I too played at both the HS and College level and I am wondering if the the chanting and trash talkin bothers the fans or the players most. I dont disagree that this behavior should not be displayed at the HS level but my feeling is if the kid is really into it that they really never acknowledge it it or hear it imo.

Unless of course you have one of those really loud ND fans like nkyvbfan, LOL

I agree with you on all counts. I don't think the booing is ok, but it is part of the game. I honestle don't think it bothers the players, at least what the girls have told me it doesn't. Now, from a parents standpoint, I understand their concern. These are our children and we love them dearly and don't want ANYONE to boo our kids.

The language at the end of Boone's bench from bench players towards Ryle's players was both extremely vulgar and should of been addressed, but it wasn't and the Ryle parents aren't on here griping about the words of our children.

I want whatever you're drinking today! LOL

Not the latter ;-) It may be a common occurence, but the school's principle should nip it in the bud.

May or may not bother/distract certain players, but allowing taunting and harrassment is not teaching young kids good morals and sportsmanship. There are positive ways to root for your team.

I just got home from a trip to the West Virginia - Pitt women's BB game with Syd and her brother, and a nice visit with the coaches afterwards, and I want to assure all here that Sydney was not at all upset with, or bother by the booing.

But Shockey I do have a question for you. You sat completely across the floor from the BC bench, right? Just how did you hear all this "vulgar" language toward the Ryle players, in such an extremely noisy environment, when I was sitting directly behind the bench and heard nor saw any of that?!?!

I know you and I had a very pleasant and cordial conversation after the game, but this type of denigratory, undocumented claim, as opposed to the booing toward Syd, which everyone in the gym heard, certainly doesn't do anything to quell the animosity his rivalry has seen recently. Rivalries are fine, and kids being kids in all this is to be expected, but I'd think adults would be looking to ease the tension not exacerbate it.
