And there are several state mandated spending issues that the state does not fund. You are required to do it but they give you no funds to do it with. And then cut the other monies too.

School districts across the state are in severe binds.

Thought I read something over the weekend, where some legislators were going to introduce a bill that dealt with that. In other words, if the state doesn't help fund it, it can't be mandated. Even so, there'll still be many districts in a bind.

It's an absolute fraud that the BC Schools are in an 8MM deficit. All because the money is taken and dispersed elsewhere in the state. SEEK seems so unconstitutional and flawed to me. Nothing more than a magnified welfare system. The taxpayers of BC should be incensed.

I am sure it will be for future things and not to address past things.

Please tell me what money is taken from Boone County and then dispersed around the state.

Please be sure you have a full understanding of how this works before you make these comments. My sister-in-law thought she knew and then served on a budget committee for a Central Ky. district and low and behold she found out that what you are saying is simply not true.

Quote from Senator Schickel below:

The district faces rapid growth, but because the county has a stronger economy than other parts of the state, money the district needs is being sent out of the county, he said.

I know for a fact that Boone County has more than enough tax revenue to sustain the school system, however, when it has to be given away to other parts of the state this is when problems like this arise. Didn't all this start with KERA? There should not be one modular classroom in the BC school system. The districts that have the most tax revenue are pulling the wagon here and it's just not an equitable system imo.

Instead of complaining about budget sharing with poorer districts, maybe Boone County should budget their money better. Schools are receive a vast majority of their funds based on enrollment and attendance of that enrollment. So it's more likely Boone County Schools are mismanaging money than just not getting their fair share.

It is more like they keep having to build schools to keep up with sky rocketing enrollment.

Very good point, as is probably a lot of the issues within other public schools too.

Your post demonstrates how alienated you are from the issues in BC. Not a clue.

So, Property tax money is being taken from Boone County and sent to other districts? I am not sure that is happening.

Now, if they are talking about state income tax and state other taxes that the state takes up and then redistributes, well they do that for everything and not just schools.

You know, when an independent district has a deficit the state sometimes recommends merging......but when a county district goes in the hole, there is no talk about it.

TRUE! They had to keep building new elementary, junior and high schools, and from what I hear they still may need more very soon!

I know for a fact schools such as Beechwood and Highlands have been complaining about this for several years now! Maybe it will take a large district such as Boone to get people's attention.
