Having two or three officials calling a high school game makes no difference, in my opinion.

The official was in good position to make the call, it just appears he made a call that should have not been made.

Crowds in games in Lexington have been very disappointing in recent years for both football and basketball.

I see no reason for the KHSAA to not go back to two officials per contest during our current economic time.

Can't disagree more.

No it wasn't at the game I was at. GRC travles VERY well.

There were some decent crowds at the games, but it wasn't packed by any means. Probably 3/4 full for most of the games. (Thought GRC had a great travel crowd for this close to Christmas)

I would have liked to have seen 3 Ref during all games. Play it like they normally would during the season. At $8/person, they could have afforded it, but as someone put in another thread: Lot's of tournaments going on with probably a small group to use.

Overall - I thought it was a decent tournament.

Fact is that the one particular referee took it upon himself to decide the outcome of that game. Absolutely terrible call! You don't make that type of call 80 feet from the basket!

Haven't seen the call, so maybe it was a bad one. But, if a play is a foul in the third minute of a game, it is a foul in the last minute. A foul is a foul.

I have a problem with those who think referees should change their whistle in the last minute of a game, "to let the players decide it." If a player commits a foul that would have been called in the third quarter, he did decide it by committing a bad play. It's the officials job to make the call and penalize the team which committed the foul. Not look the other way.

Again, this is a general statement, not a defense of the call made in this particular game.

Again, if GRC coach takes his players off the lane there is no chance for a foul, bad choice.

Humphrey made the right choice here. I'm not sure how it's up for debate.

Up one and at the line for a bonus with 2.5 left, you surrender a much better look if you pull your guys off the line than you do if you leave them on. Rebounder gets to start clean and in 2.5 he will easily get inside of half court for a shot. Do you want to concede a 35 footer as time expires, or take a chance that once out of every 200 times you have a kid on the line in this situation a foul is called?

Agree with you Sandman. You tell you kids to not foul in any situation, like over the back, etc. It had to of been a heat of the moment play and without seeibg it I can't say if deserved or not.

Just a bit of information for everyone. The officials in Lexington are the same that work for GRC. BBA covers 10th and 11th regions.

I agree 100%.

Henry Clay is a nice team and somewhat of a suprise this season. I know they have a couple young talented kids in Green and Grundy but who else stands out. I have been reading about Kiesling and Kimball as well as Prewitt a lot. If there are any Devils fans out there I'd like to hear what their strengths are because I picked them to win the Republic Bank Tourney. They seem to be very hot right now.

This year's Henry Clay squad has a nice mix of players.

Point guard Wesley Kimble (Junior) can get anywhere on the floor he desires and has a great knack for distributing the basketball.

Daniel Kiesling (Senior) is listed at 6'6" and is at least 6'5". He is long, has excellent footwork, and plays very hard. He is a very nice high school player and he could develop into a good college player as well. He has already committed to Emory Riddle to study aerospace engineering. He is an excellent student as well.

Brandon Nichols (Senior) is a 6 footish athlete. He is the state's defending champion in the 400 meters. He runs like a gazelle and loves to play defense. He can play that shut down defender role for the Blue Devils which makes him invaluable. He has already accepted a track scholarship to UK. He can also shoot the three, but his strength is defense and tough play.

Kendrick Prewitt (Senior) is the slasher. He is a very active player and will take the ball in transition right to the glass. He has a scorer's mentality in that if he misses a shot or two, he will keep on shooting. He has been scoring at a high clip than one would have thought prior to the season beginning.

Trae Stewart (Senior) is a veteran varsity player who brings a nice all-around game to the floor. Although undersized to play inside (might be 6'1") he is an active rebounder and has very strong hands when going to get a ball. His father, Prince Stewart, played at Lafayette and then UTEP, and his brother, Prince, Jr. just finished up a nice career at Henry Clay.

The real x-factor this season for Henry Clay has been the two freshman, Trey Grundy and Jordan Green. Both these fine young players are in the 6'4 range, long, and both have excellent ballhandling skill. A world of potential, but they are freshmen. Jordan Green has played a lot and very well and Trey Grundy has missed some action due to injury.

I see Henry Clay having a very nice mix of a lot of different style ball players that have good chemistry. They could beat anyone on a given night, but can also throw in some clunkers. An example is the fact they can beat an outstanding Clark County team, but lose to Buckhorn. Coach Daniel Brown gets a lot of talented players at Henry Clay and this might potentially be his best team. If they continue to improve and stay healthy, I could see them making a deep run in the tournament in March.

For what it is worth, I don't see them winning the Republic Bank Tournament next week at Lexington Catholic. Coach Brown will need to focus his team after the big upset of Clark County and their Fayette County Invitational championship.

Go Devils!

Clark kept them on the line and lost--point well taken.

:confused::confused::confused:

Coach did right, cant blame officials when your own team is shooting free throws to finish off a victory. Both teams can take a lot from the game as well as the coaches.

I can't imagine a tournament with only 2 officials for most of the games. Is the attendance that bad?

I only attended one of these games and there were a grand total of 27 people in the gym. I'm not very good at math, but I'd think this wouldn't be enough to pay for the security and referees.

Fayette Co teams generally have little fan support.
