December 12, 201015 yr http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5910011 Wow. Muschamp seems to be a good coach, but you'd think UF could get a more experienced coach.
December 12, 201015 yr Muschamps name has came up for coaching vacancies for years now but finally looks like hes getting the job he'd be stupid to pass up. As great as Urban Meyer is I think this is still a great hire for Florida. I mean you bring in a guy who can snatch guys away from Texas potentially, then add that to all the uber talented in state kids at a program that recruits nationally as good as anyone. Florida is always going to have the players, and what Meyer brought was a system and an attitude. What I think your going to see Muschamp bring is the same type of winning attitude, and the systems put in place are going to be as equally effective. The downfall of Florida this year IMO is Meyer's spread really came back to bite them after losing the key guy to run it. If Newton was still at Florida this season, then they are competing for a NC. With Brantley under center the offense never seemed to run smooth consistently the same way it had in years past. You bring in this unique spread system, in a league in which most felt it would falter in, then in return cause almost half of the same league to in turn run variations of it. BUT, you come in and handicap yourself because the same system was built so dependent on a single player. With Muschamp I think you will see more consistency in the offense being he will not have as complex offense as Meyer had, and you know that defense is going to be insane with all the talent he is going to have to work with.
December 12, 201015 yr I just think that UF is clearly a top 10 program and should never have to get a coordinator no matter the pedigree. I just will never believe that they could not have gotten Petersen or Patterson if they really wanted to. I will say that maybe Urban Meyer sticking around right now probably wasn't something an established coach would want to deal with, because it's going to be hard enough following him up as a coach without Meyer rubbernecking. Muschamp needs to go and get a good OC and fill his staff with recruiters. I think alot of UFs recruits are now up for grabs, though I'd imagine most will stay there. UF fans love Dana Holgersen, but I bet he gets a HC job if he wants one. Kerwin Bell is thrown around alot and would make sense, but who knows who that would go? All I can say is that everyday since the Shannon firing at the U, FSU has gotten stronger and stronger without having to do anything.
December 12, 201015 yr Good hire. This guy has turned down jobs and waited for the right job. Could have stayed and waited for Mack to retire. Knows the SEC will do a good job.
December 12, 201015 yr As Gator fan was somewhat surprised at this hire. He did reallly good job at Texas and if he can hire a good OC feel that he will be very suceesful with the talent he can get at Florida. Looking forward to next season and GO GATORS.
December 12, 201015 yr Hearing Major Applewhite will be the OC at UF... That combination could be great. Now throw in the possibility of being able to successfully recruit Florida and TEXAS, WOW!
December 12, 201015 yr That combination could be great. Now throw in the possibility of being able to successfully recruit Florida and TEXAS, WOW! OC at Ok ST is also in the mix...
December 12, 201015 yr UF has to be one of the top 2 to 3 jobs in the country. I'm surprised they couldn't (or chose not to wait) to bring in a proven head coach. AD says this guy is the only one they met with face to face. Surprising that they would rush into this.
December 12, 201015 yr Jeremy Foley is considered to be one of the best AD's if not the best. I am kind of surprised at this hire. Lest we forget, Foley panicked after Shanahan and Stoops turned him down and he went with Ron Zook. I thought a proven head coach would have been the target.
December 12, 201015 yr OC at Ok ST is also in the mix... I bet Holgersen gets a HC job if he wants one.
December 12, 201015 yr I like the fire and energy Muschamp brings to the table. We'll see how he does as not only a head coach, but a head coach at one of the highest pressure jobs in the game.
December 12, 201015 yr I would prefer Holgersen over Applewhite if I were a UF fan. Texas Tech then Ok. St. offenses speak for themselves. His offense would be a better fit for Brantly- it would look more like the Ball Coach's old teams.
