Imagine how many titles Mayfield would have if we had been in class A longer. Scary stuff!

Imagine how many they wouldn't have if they'd always been 2a

I'm sure that Beechwood's loss to Mayfield this time around really stung a lot of people, including players, coaches, fans, etc. Prior to the recent semifinal game in Fort Mitchell, I've wondered how much it has to do with a psychological edge for Mayfield with beating them all the games prior to two weeks ago. Many may not believe this, but there could be an effect from it IMO.

With the Cards leaving it should give Bw a chance to regain that swagger they had. I still recall the attitude that was present when we met in 2009 and of course it was well deserved. Bw seemed to have that same psychological edge Mf has now over most of the teams in class A at the time and they expected it to be no different with MF but MF was a different animal due to their rich tradition of winning atleast a couple titles per decade and a program that expected to win no matter who was in front of them just like BW expected to win. The Cards had gone through some lean years by Mf standards and had revamped their offense and brought in new offensive and defensive coordinators and were now a spread team. Bw never saw it coming and in 2010 they felt 2009 was just a anomaly. With the same results 2011 looked to be where they couldn't miss with the best team in years and for the 3rd consecutive year we heard the BW and NKY fans talk it up. When the hammer fell in 2011 we for the first time began to see attitudes change. Acceptance that someone was doing it better and that the Cards were the real deal. Even the coaches began trying new things to modernize a outdated offense but still seemed uncomfortable in doing a lot to get away from Bw football of the past. But most of all from 2011 Bw had lost its psychological edge and now seemed to be the one that was suffering from it. 2012,13 and 14 saw more of the same but the Tigers have improved in 2014 in every area and that should pay off. Bw will have to live with the Eternal Monkey called Mf but it will make them a better program for it in the future I think

I will also say I think Bw was the best team we played each of the last 6 years of our run except for the 03 Lex Christian team. I know that will not sit well with the H folks but that is my opinion

not sure, I guess a couple less

Good comments ... except the last line. The last line is just another way of saying we were the better team and should have won. Did any of these past 5 teams underachieve? If I am going to take your approach as outlined in the first paragraph, I have to say no, they didn't underachieve. The results speak for themselves. These teams got the most they could out of themselves and unfortunately it wasn't good enough to win a title.

The last line in NO WAY excludes the first paragraph. I think you are focused on the "Best Team" in relation to Beechwood having the Best Team over Mayfield or another opponent, but still losing. I'm talking about fans saying this is the Best Beechwood team since (Insert Year here!) I apologize for the unclear wording.

You know me, I believe we have underachieved every year we don't make it to the Finals. We will certainly disagree as to the reason, but I'm sure that you agree that this is true for at least a few of the past 7 years. This year along with 2011 being at the top.

He doesn't realize that the thread was started a few years ago.

I actually did not realize that either.

I actually don't feel Beechwood underachieved. I feel Beechwood played their hearts out and got beat. I think Beechwood had a team good enough to win in 2011 and 2014, and those teams would win their share of games versus Mayfield in a series, but they got beat when they did play in the game that counted. I can't say in a series that Beechwood would win more than half the games versus Mayfield in either 2011 or 2014. Beechwood made mistakes and Mayfield made the plays they needed to. The other years, Mayfield was definitely the better team.

This will all soon be forgotten once BW takes off again.....

Maybe elsewhere ... not in Ft. Mitchell and Mayfield. That is why this year's loss is a real irritating one for Beechwood fans. The Tigers had the team capable of ending the streak and winning a title but just didn't get it done. A 1A state title in the next four years will not be as satisfying without beating Mayfield on the way.

Or at least in a class other than Danville. :lol2:

BW peeps okay, notwithstanding whatever it is they put in the water that causes their mass delusions. If i were them, and we were them for a while b/c of danville, I would be mad that we were moving. getting the monkey off the back is a good thing.

After the first couple seasons, I don't think there were any mass delusions at Beechwood. Year one (2009), no doubt the fans were way off but coming off back to back state championships and not having seen Mayfield in a number of years, the delusion is understandable.

Every other year Beechwood played Mayfield, Beechwood had a good enough team to get the win. In 2010 and 2012, it would have been a big upset for sure but both those years BW was tied at halftime so it isn't like the Tigers had no chance. In 2011 and 2014, those teams were evenly matched with Mayfield and just didn't make the plays they needed to win. Yes, Mayfield won them all but the only season BW played Mayfield and had no chance IMO is 2009. The other years, I don't think it is delusional for any BW fan to think they could win.

Not really his point, what he is referring to is that there were many fans, most not really informed like you are and many being just NKY fans pulling for their region in the playoffs that were so use to BW winning all the time that they took years to realize we were legit. It was a result of years of domination. Honestly it made it more fun when we won though
