People in Harlan County are always against it pal. You have no idea. Most of our kids can only dream of having the things that most of yours have. That is what drives them. It was not meant to be intimidating. It was intended just to state that HHS will not get the carpet rolled out for them in Harlan County. We respect what they have done, but won't be bowing down to anyone.

 

And what would our boys have that yours don't? Sounds like new facilities are in the future there due to a very generous donation....That is fantastic news for Harlan (I mean that, by the way). Wow, what the Birds could do with that. The frosh dressed on the bus and stood outside this past Friday night during pre-game and half time at JC...Guess we should expect more of the same...No worries. The Birds will be there. You won't have to look far to find them.

Highlands took a very, very mediocre team to Cawood in 1982 and sneaked out with a win. I do recall Cawood had a pretty good running back that had JJ Jude kind of mountain numbers. Any historians, Birdsfan you got your ears on? Go Birds 20n10

All I can tell you is that the Birds won 43-13. Then they beat Russell, before finishing up the year in the Scuba Bowl.

Harlan County was created by the merger of 3 smaller schools: Evarts (A), Cawood (AAA) and Cumberland (A) around 2008.

 

OH thanks, those are all names of some pretty good ole football programs from back in the day.

I thought that 82 team was the first HHS team to break the USA TODAY Super 25? I was just a little guy back then, but I remember that team well, but not well enough I guess!

Not going to engage in debate about socio-economic theories and philosophies . I was not critcizing our county or trying to do it a disservice. I am from HC, and I can tell you I love this place. Definitely did not mean to sound as though I was downing it any way. As someone said above, the game will be decided on the field. All they'll have to do is look across the field to find us also buddy.

I remember that '81 team. Seem to recall they had a QB who was 5-11 passing against Russell...but three of the five were TDs. That was after coming back from badly spraining his hair a few weeks before.

Please explain the bolded , what are the "things ", that you are referring to ?

 

What is the "it " that people are always against , in Harlan County ? Using the word "people" in your post can I assume you are talking about the town people and not the football team ?

 

If , Harlan County ever came up to play at Highlands , we would treat them like royalty , invite their fans to join us at our taigates , roll out the red carpet and treat them with the utmost respect . Thats how we teach our kids . As far as " bowing down " to us , we wouldn't want or expect that from anybody. After the game you will find that our football team deserves a lot of respect , win or lose , just by the way they handle themselves ,on and off the field .

 

At the beginning of this thread, I assume it was a HC fan ,said "take all the shots you want '', NOBODY IS TAKING SHOTS AT YOU , WE WILL TAKE OUR SHOTS ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD . Ater the game , your team may have a lot more respect for our team ! Go Birds , one game at a time !
