Don't misconstrue this as me trying to call foul or anything, but there have been a handful of folks I've known to have been in Cov Cath's feeder school district who have opted instead for Holy Cross. The Krallman brothers, for example. However, I think in a lot of cases, it's just an added deciding factor for kids who were already on the fence.

 

I don't recall any stud football players named Krallman down at HC. When was that?

Who went to Holy Cross that would have gone to Cov Cath? Most of the "stars" down at Holy Cross weren't candidates for Cov Cath. IMO Cov Cath has the athletes, it just is not translating to wins on the field.

 

Do you think it is just coincidence that CCH has been a .500 team since Holy Cross start football? I have no doubt there are at least a half dozen and probably more kids on Holy Cross' roster that would be playing at CCH if Holy Cross didn't have football. That takes depth and some solid starters away and it makes a difference. It doesn't have to be star players to make a difference in the team. CCH and Wirth nead to take the schedule down just a bit, get a couple of 9-3 seasons in the books and then re-evaluate. Winning fixes a lot things, especially whining kids and parents. It is hard to complain about a 9-3 team.

Andy was was their quarterback the first year (or two) they had a team. His younger brother Bobby was his/their top receiver and a track star down there.

I think there is a lot more parity in football now! I also think that since most sports are Year round (basketball) or nearly year round (baseball) now that has had an impact on some athletes playing multiple sports.

 

I don't think you can assume that a kid would have gone to Cov Cath if Holy Cross wasn't playing football. I think they might have stayed in their public school district. I have friends that sent their kids to HC but would have sent them to SK had they not had football.

 

Take Roenker (spelling?) for example. Do you think he would have gone to Cov Cath or stayed and played baketball and baseball at HC?

 

The best player to leave Cov Cath didn't go to HC.....he went to Highlands!:sssh:

Wirth had nothing to do with the schedule, it was in place when he was hired.

The schedule will be better next year, St.X is replaced by Conner.

When the schedule was put together to many people were looking at pay day's not want was best for the team, case in point Elder

Let me go on the record that I think this years Cov Cath team is a good team. I didn't expect them to perform well against Lasalle. With the exception of the Ryle game I think they played well. A few breaks and could they have beaten Highlands and JC?

If I think back to the better players on recent Holy Cross teams plus this year's team I can tell you that the majority of those good players would be at Holy Cross because of Holy Cross - not football. I'm open to names of recent good players that would have gone to CCH without football being offered at HC.

The only thing that Holy Cross football affected was Holy Cross soccer. They had won 3 straight regional titles and since, zero.

I wouldn't worry about Holy Cross Football. They have great athletes, but as long as Kozerski is there, they will never make it to the big game.

Of this years impact players the only one who might have considered CovCath as an option would be Jasper. Arlinghaus, Fuller were going to HC whether or not Football was there.

 

I do think HC football has had an affect on CovCath, but I don't think it has been major. If they put together 2 or 3 really successful years it could start to have an affect. Before any ask, I would consider Regional championships and or state final appearances as REALLY successful years.

 

I think the same goes for Brossart and NewCath.
