Second guessing, and wondering what if isn't going to change a thing and Coach B and staff have built a strong Mason Co. Football program. So its obvious they know what they're doing. You make tough decisions as a coach, and if Coach B thought Pawsat was needed on defense, then he was. Pawsat was playing defense last night to replace the original starter in that position due to injury and being out.

 

It is so unfortunate that this happened to a great kid, Pawsat and great Royals team! They had a great season and you hate to see it end like this. Congrats to Coach B, his staff and the Ragin' Royals team on a great season!

With this kids past knee problems, no way he should be playing defense no matter who's out at line backer. Even if no injury occurs, what does this gain? You may or may not get some better on defense by sacrificing some of the offense as the game goes on and he gets tired? Hope he is ok for basketball, really good kid

I was expecting this to be a really good game, and no doubt the Pawsat injury really hurt Mason's chances. Belfry is a really good team, I thought they were the best team that West Carter had played though Mason was just about as good in my opinion. Here's to wishing Pawsat a speedy recovery and Belfry good luck going forward.

Belfry caught a break when Pawsat went down. Hate to see that especially since he went down playing defense. I asked someone from Mason how much defense he has played this year and they said none until tonight. Kind of makes you wonder what if.

This one was very difficult for me because I have friends that support each team. Feel for the MC coaches, players and fans. But am happy for the Belfry folks, especially Toots. Looks like I won't be seeing you this weekend, my friend. Disappointed on one hand, happy on the other. Go Pirates.

I thought this game could go either way. The team with the most breaks would win. I don't know who got the most. But I do know who got the biggest one!! Good luck Belfry next week!!

Pawsat had played defense most of the year.

 

Pawsat had played a few downs at safety at the end of some close games, Russell and Montgomery come to mind, but very little defense overall. I don't remember him lining up at linebacker in any other game, and I was at all of them. The pre-game introductions for the Belfry game included Pawsat as starting at linebacker. I heard people questioning the wisdom of that immediately. I've never heard a single person question not playing Pawsat on defense all season. I'm not sure who was injured that normally started there. Cornerback Xavia Shurn was out but Jordan Gilbert was covering his spot.

If Mason was worried about their running game and thought they needed Pawsat to play LB then why did the Defense seem to get better after Pawsat got hurt. Someone played in Pawsat's spot after the injury. That was a big risk to take. Once Pawsat went down so did Mason.

Congrats Belfry... good luck against Russell this week.

I agree whole heartedly, mchammer. I have the utmost respect for Coach Buchannon and what he has accomplished at Mason Co. He knows his team and what he needed to do to win and obviously, I don't. I didn't mean to doubt his coaching, I just wondered what the game might have turned out to be like if Pawsat hadn't gotten hurt on defense.

Thanks, LN. While I would have enjoyed seeing you and watching HHS vs JC, I obviously am happy to have my Pirates still in the hunt. We'll meet up somewhere down the road. :thumb:

I understand what you're saying... :thumb: And no doubt, I think we all know it would have been a different ballgame if Pawsat hadn't gotten hurt. I just read some of these posts, threads on the Royals all season, and ya don't hear many comment on some of the other tough decisions that the Coach had to make all season and hear 'em say 'wow, that was a great decision' when they're winning. Its so easy for all of us to be armchair quarterbacks!
