November 3, 201015 yr Celebrations seem muted. Rand victory speech was an OK speech but reaction was not at all the usual energy. Same with the WV senate speech just now. Very muted. Is it lack of excitement for candidate, even in victory? Or is it knowing that there are tough issues ahead and that winning tonight is not the end game?
November 3, 201015 yr I don't think he's rational. Some of his ideas I actually could really consider, such as the flat rate tax (with modifications). But he is erratic, inflammatory and reactionary, IMO. I really think he's a loon. I realize he's ridden the wave of the anti-establishment. But I believe it's a huge mistake for Kentucky. I may be proven wrong. But I don't think so in my heart. I think he actually supports the Fair Tax not the Flat Tax.

November 3, 201015 yr The state of Delaware shows that you can't be a flat-out kook and get elected. 40% of vote. Not bad for a witch. Of course The Wicked Witch of the West will still be with us, unless she resigns.
November 3, 201015 yr So how does a Tea Party candidate (now elected official) like Mr. Rubio advocate cutting taxes and repealing the estate tax , opposing cap and trade, and indexing the AMT without doing what he/they rail against ie raising the deficit? That's what I'm going to be interested in seeing. If they can do it I'm all for it. From what I've read, though, it seems like you can't have both.

It make me once again very happy with our decision to move out of Jefferson County The sad part is that when I bought my current home 16 years ago, I was not within 10 miles of the Louisville city limits. After the Metro Louisville debacle, now when I am on I-64 west and enter Jefferson County and see the welcome to Metro Louisville sign I just shake my head and long for the good old days. I live in a safe neighborhood with zero crime, and have spent thousands and thousands of dollars getting my home the way I wanted it. In todays economy, I can't afford to move nor do I really want to.
November 3, 201015 yr One of the most amusing articles I read all year was a Time magazine reflection on Rand Paul's chances of winning the election. The jist of the article was that any other state or even any other time period prior to about 10 years ago, Rand Paul wouldn't have been given a second look and probably not even made it close to being elected. However, the state of Kentucky has become so anti-democrat and furthermore, anti-Obama policies and thus they are willing to elect such a radical Republican over anyone willing to run against him as a Democrat. While the article had its slant, many truths existed in it.
