That was the easiest call all night. The only question was if it was long enought, and they apparently thought it was. My only comment on the 2 pt conversion is that an oficial should have immediately put his hands up signaling it was good. I never saw an official sigal anything. The official onthe near sideline turned to watch whether the ball went out of bounds which would have no bearing on the play if the player had made a legal catch in the endzone before the fumble/muff?

Bottom line is the game was meaning less from a playoff standpoint and both teams get to begin persuing what they really want next week. Good luck to both teams, and bring back 2 state titles.

Our contention from the beginning was that it was short AND wide. Our kids came off the field saying saying that it was way wide...after reviewing the film ...it was way wide. We couldnt tell if it was short with our angle. It is what it is.....people make mistakes..and tend to show their true colors under stress....that is what we are seeing now. Good game to all.

I remember texting Qryche and telling him this one was over after Newcath tried passing first 3 plays and got themselves in a 4th and 11. Great call to the sideline that also stops the clock. Receiver ran the perfect route to get the first and get out of bounds.

 

Hightchew then gashes the Beechie defense for a 40 yard run on next play. Kid is a gamer.

 

It's a shame there had to be a loser in this game. I think this is what this rivalry needed though. Kind of brought back memories of when these two were battling it out for 1A supremacy.

With all due respect, unless you have an enzone angle camera how do you know if it was wide?

My guess is you can see it pass behind the upright.

Our sideline reporter was on the goal line when Vocke crossed the plain and said he made it. We'll have our game audio up in the morning along with pictures. I hope we got a shot of that at the end.

Pretty simple really...we zoomed in on the ball in slow motion. The goal post clearly blocked out the ball..as opposed to the ball blocking out the goal post.Hopefully that makes sense. It was pretty obvious.

It is much harder than most people think to judge a field goal from under the upright. They can be easily misjudged. That is why you usually see both officials look at each other and verify before signaling. The referee or umpire if he can turn around actually has the best view.

That happened to me too. Let it play through a second time and you should get the rest of the game. I was at the game and for a Christian school I was appalled to hear several adult women using the F word. Very poor sports at the end of the game.

What can you say except great game! Another classic in this rivalry. Is there another rivalry that delivers great game after great game, year after year like this one?

 

This was just excellent high school football. Great execution by both teams. Great coaching making adjustments back and forth. Not a single turnover in the game by either team. The only place where there was not great execution was NCC hurt themselves with penalties.

 

On the NCC field goal, I just have a hard time believing two officials could miss that call on a ball that close to them. Unless I see some video that tells me otherwise, I have to believe that kick was good. And what a clutch kick by the NCC kicker after two illegal motion penalties pushed him back ten more yards.

 

I was very impressed with Eviston's play calling late in the game. He showed me a lot in this game. The QB draw by Hightchew was just a great call. And the game tieing TD pass play to Daunt off play action caught Beechwood completely off guard. I was especially impressed with how he handled his team at the end of the game with the controversial 2 point conversion. NCC has a keeper in Eviston.

 

On the other side, Coach Rash made the absolute correct call in going for 2. NCC had gained control of the line of scrimmage and was hitting 5 yards a play. It did not look like Beechwood was going to stop them in those 10 yard OT possessions. On the other side, BW was working hard and making big plays to get their points. Going for 2 was the right call.

 

As to Vocke's 2 point conversion, I will have to see the replay to know for sure. It definitely looked like a catch. He pulled the ball in and took a couple steps toward the goal line. So I don't see the argument by some on here that he never had the ball. The question for me is did the ball break the plane before it was knocked loose. I am not sure there is going to be conclusive video of that because you would need to be right on the goal line to know for sure. If there was a camera with that angle, then maybe we will know. If it was a catch and fumble, the fumble was recovered by a Beechwood player in the end zone, just in case someone had that question.

 

I was glad to see Kelly in action. It would have been a shame for him to miss this game. There have been so many BW /NCC battles with a Kelly on the field that I would have been disappointed from that perspective if he missed this game.

 

Congrats to both teams on a great game of high school football. Best wishes to both teams in the playoffs. If it is any consolation NCC fans, the last two times Beechwood beat you, the Breds went on to win state championships. So maybe this is a good omen. Hopefully these teams see each other again ... in their respective title games in Bowling Green.
