What can you say except great game! Another classic in this rivalry. Is there another rivalry that delivers great game after great game, year after year like this one?

 

This was just excellent high school football. Great execution by both teams. Great coaching making adjustments back and forth. Not a single turnover in the game by either team. The only place where there was not great execution was NCC hurt themselves with penalties.

 

On the NCC field goal, I just have a hard time believing two officials could miss that call on a ball that close to them. Unless I see some video that tells me otherwise, I have to believe that kick was good. And what a clutch kick by the NCC kicker after two illegal motion penalties pushed him back ten more yards.

 

I was very impressed with Eviston's play calling late in the game. He showed me a lot in this game. The QB draw by Hightchew was just a great call. And the game tieing TD pass play to Daunt off play action caught Beechwood completely off guard. I was especially impressed with how he handled his team at the end of the game with the controversial 2 point conversion. NCC has a keeper in Eviston.

 

On the other side, Coach Rash made the absolute correct call in going for 2. NCC had gained control of the line of scrimmage and was hitting 5 yards a play. It did not look like Beechwood was going to stop them in those 10 yard OT possessions. On the other side, BW was working hard and making big plays to get their points. Going for 2 was the right call.

 

As to Vocke's 2 point conversion, I will have to see the replay to know for sure. It definitely looked like a catch. He pulled the ball in and took a couple steps toward the goal line. So I don't see the argument by some on here that he never had the ball. The question for me is did the ball break the plane before it was knocked loose. I am not sure there is going to be conclusive video of that because you would need to be right on the goal line to know for sure. If there was a camera with that angle, then maybe we will know. If it was a catch and fumble, the fumble was recovered by a Beechwood player in the end zone, just in case someone had that question.

 

I was glad to see Kelly in action. It would have been a shame for him to miss this game. There have been so many BW /NCC battles with a Kelly on the field that I would have been disappointed from that perspective if he missed this game.

 

Congrats to both teams on a great game of high school football. Best wishes to both teams in the playoffs. If it is any consolation NCC fans, the last two times Beechwood beat you, the Breds went on to win state championships. So maybe this is a good omen. Hopefully these teams see each other again ... in their respective title games in Bowling Green.

Just saw the video. As I said above, it was a catch. As I said above, that video isn't going to clear things up. Vocke was hit right on the goal line. As I said with the NCC field goal, the official was right there in perfect position and did not hesitate to put up his arms saying Vocke was in, so I have to believe he was in.

Awesome game! Definitely one that will be talked about for many years to come. Congratulations Tigers on a big victory. Gutsy call going for 2 in the second OT. Wow!

For those wanting to watch the replay, once it gets to the end of the first nine minute clip, if you click it forward and wait, the other 2 hours of the broadcast will come up. I like how you can quickly move forward on that video. I do have to say though, that whoever the color commentator was made a complete fool of himself. The play by play guy was ok. I think he was Dan Glasglens (sp?). Dan was ok, but the color commentator was bad. On the Vocke pass in OT for the TD, he keeps yelling "there have to be linemen down field" over and over. If the goofball would watch his own video feed he could see the Beechwood linemen scrambling in the back field 10 yards behind the line blocking for Vocke. There isn't a lineman one down field and the guy just will not stop saying "there have to be linemen down field". Come on man, watch the game you are calling. Then on Vocke's 2 point catch, again he won't even watch the game and his own video and make an objective call. There is no doubt Vocke caught the ball, took two steps and turned to the goal line and then was hit. But this color guy keeps yelling he didn't catch the ball. Terrible. I appreciate the guys who make the effort to broadcast these games, but you have to be better than that. My advice to the color guy, listen to your own broadcast in a few days and work on getting better.

The thing about that Vocke pass is that they could've had every lineman down field because the ball was caught behind the line of scrimmage. There is no penalty for illegal man downfield if that occurs. That 2pt. was bang bang but that ref called it instantly.

As a NewCath grad I have to tip my hat to Beechwood for the victory. They played like a team on a mission all night, while the Breds struggled for the first 45 minutes. It's a shame the game had to end with controversy, but if they tackle Vocke on the "mad scramble" the play before, this is a moot point. Boys learn from your mistakes and move on, that's all you can do. As for the foul-mouthed fans, there is nothing worse than parents, students and or fans letting their emotions get the best of them. It's just a game, get over it, we lost, life goes on. Again, congrats to Beechwood on the win tonight.

Cable was there in the booth - showed the replay. The extra point was not good, The kid dropped the ball when it hit his hands - ball hit the ground. The replay showed he wasn't even in the endzone anyway. Un fortunately neither team will be happy with this one - BW knows they did not win, but NCC will get the loss. I have to believe the official had to see it but decided to make the wrong call.

in the video on NKY sports it looks like it goes to the right of the goal post but the video is internet quality. It was stated above that high quality video with the capability of zooming it shows the ball wide of the right upright. Good enough for me! Tigers win 40-36 then!

I was surprised that no lineman were down field. I think it was deceiving because Vocke was so far behind the line of scrimmage (10-15 yards) and Nussbaum caught the ball behind the line of scrimmage. I think the comment from the NewCath parent section was "that play was so messed up they had to do something wrong!" The player getting hurt on that play made is seem more likely that a lineman was down field. I don't know how he got hurt as you can't even see him in the video. Must have been coming down to celebrate!

There is absolutely zero chance that an official standing directly under the upright is going to miss the call on a kick like that. Zero. That call is as easy as counting the finger on your hand. I saw no uproar from the Beechwood players on the field. If the kick was wide right, I guarantee you players on the field would have been upset.

 

Similarly, the official was in perfect position on the 2 point conversion and immediately put his hands up. I heard the background noise on the video of some guys doing the game on radio and they said their sideline guy who was right there on the goal line confirmed Vocke got in. I will go with the goal line official and reporter watching on the goal line over fans over 50 yards away.

actually the BW players did say something to the coaches. The good thing is that they didn't let it bother them and they continued to play.

 

FWIW, It was mentioned above that the ref watched the ball roll out of the endzone and waited to make the call on the 2pt conversion. from the video it looks like he doesn't watch the ball and makes the call within 1 second of the hit.
