That is the "cover up" I'm talking about. No one has stepped up to take responsibility. I guess the kid just went up there on his own, and stayed up there for a thrill ride. Someone had him film practice in horribly dangerous conditions, and there is no denying that.

What are they trying to cover up? Is it not true that a gust of wind would be able to take down the tower? Where did he say it was peaceful till this gust of wind? I can't find that. Do you really think a man with the brains and legal knowledge of Jack Swarbick would really attempt to try and cover this up? This guy isn't some idiot. I actually heard him say they are just going to let the investigation play out. You guys are all looking at what he said the wrong way. Trying to "cover this up" give me a break.

 

BTW the organization the young man worked for is separate from the football team.

 

The film goes to the ND football team so they have a large say so in what goes on. Maybe BK didn't directly tell him to go up there, but he was there because the FOOTBALL team wants practice taped. An organization just doesn't tape practice just to be doing it. It's an evaluational tool for the football team, so they are under the direction of the team and the athletic department, whether or not ND and their fans want to admit it.

 

How come no one has taken the blame? I guess we will just place the blame of this whole incident on a 21-year old student and God(s). Heaven knows no one at Notre Dame is responsible, even though a 4 year old could tell you that taping practice at that height in that kind of wind was extremely dangerous. The weather reports said it would be bad, and ND thought football was more important than someones life. There is no other way around it, and putting it at anything less than that is pathetic and shows that people need to get their priorities straight IMO. It's win at all cost for Notre Dame now, and this whole incident proves it.

So do we ignore the coaches that directly stated they would be moving practice indoors because of the risk of the young men running video on the towers the day before? Do we ignore BKs incessant whining for a bubble at UC to practice out of the elements in situations like this? What else should we ignore to remove blame???

 

Well obviously the only blame is on a singular wind gust. Your personal feelings for BK have nothing to do with a kid being put in a life threatening situation because of BK, so I have no idea why people bring it up. It makes them look even worse. My guess is this "class" that people are happy to report on don't keep the films to break down how good of a job the 21 year old kids did at keeping the camera on the action. ND people are sticking their heads in the sand here really bad.

The "cover up" crowd needs to give it a rest. We talking about a situation with 100s of people in the vicinity, it is not as if there are no witnesses. Some are having a difficult time differentiating between their dislike of a team and individual on the sports level and translating it to the real world. I can fully understand if Kelly or others are let go (or even prosecuted), but I am not attributing it to Kelly being a jerk on the sport's level.

They also wouldn't have ammo if the AD didn't try to act like it wasn't windy most of the day and practice. There was a wind advisory. It was probably windy. The kid new the forecast before he went up, but maybe that's because his life was at risk, not the coaches on the ground.

Couldn't the guy have said I'm not going up there the wind is to bad? Someone had him go up there but he could have refused. If my boss tells me to jump out in the middle of I-75 during rush hour I'm not going to do it no matter what.

It was the day before, but yes that happened...

Swarbrick then suggested the winds gusted with an unprecedented ferocity, leading to the accident that killed Sullivan.

 

“Things started flying by me that otherwise had been stationary for all of practice,” Swarbrick said. “Gatorade containers, towels, etc. I noticed the netting on the goal posts start to bend dramatically, and I heard a crash.”

How does Swarbrick know what was “stationary for all of practice” if he only arrived four or five minutes before the crash? And given the weather reports for that part of northern Indiana on Wednesday, it’s ridiculous for Swarbrick to suggest the 50-mph wind gusts were surprising.

It would be interesting to survey coaches from around the region to see how they all handled practice that day. I would venture that Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and probably Michigan had high wind advisories that day.

No, I stated my reason. Unless they have the Men In Black memory erase device, there is not going to be a whole lot of "covering up" going on for the multitude of people around. I am not trying to invoke humor in to this, but I am really confused what there is to "cover up"? A kid tragically lost his life because he was on top of an unsafe structure in unsafe conditions. Look, I do not care for Brian Kelly, and I would fire him on the spot for this, but I really believe people are trying way too hard to find something in this situation that is not there because of dislike of him.
