Speed? Where is this speed that you speak of?

Maschinot and Hudepohl both have numerous track records.

Could you give me a current guard in the 9th who in your opinion is a "good shooter"? I do agree my statement was a bit overdone. Time will tell.

Hatton from Dixie. Egan from Highlands. Isnt Fangman from Beechwood a good shooter? These are a few that I think of but there are not a lot that are atleast known for their deadeye shooting capabilities. This is definitely the year of the BIG MAN.

Three keys:

Can Alex Connelly adequately replace Wellbrock ? I think he can.

Can Arnzen contribute?

Can the combo of good guard play and Thelen open it up for Reidinger from the outside?

2 of the 3 of those will make CCH a tough out.

Clyde, Tommy will be fine. It might take him a few weeks to get his feet under him as he didn't play at all last year but he will do fine. The young man can indeed shoot the rock and at 6"5' the kid has some height on him!

Funny how so many question CovCath again this year, just like last year but wasn't it CovCath who made it to the semi-finals of the Ninth last year and weren't they the only team to give Newport a game in the Ninth Region Tourney!

Now come on Old Guy, even you are smart enough to know that the Colonels scored 82 points combined in the two games that got them to the semi-finals and it took 2OT to score 40 against St. Henry. They are also replacing 4 starters off that team. This Colonel team will go as far as a point guard will take them, just like every other team in the 9th region. If the Colonels can get the ball up the floor and get good point guard play, they will be tough to beat. Unfortunately for the Colonels, that position is still the biggest question in Park Hills and has been ever since Mitch Shover fell ill.

Wait, and see. Thelen, Schult, Riedinger, Hudepohl, Maschinot. All 5 have played together since 2nd grade. The offense will come together just fine.

I think the key to the Colonel's season will be how well the Coach's adjust to the skill of the players he can put on the court. Coach L has to reconcile what he would like to do with what he can do. It will be interesting to see the chemistry between Coach L and Marty. I believe that Marty can really connect with those kids. He should be a great addition to the program.

I don't believe that Arnzen role will be as important as developing the roles for Schult & Baker. As for PG, don't forget that Mr. Massey will also be shouldering some of that load. As he shows on the gridiron, he's very cool under pressure.

Who starts for the Colonels this year? I don't think they'll go with the St. Pius all-star team more than a game or two into the season.

I like how Schult plays. Tazmanian devel. Full bore all the time. Connelly goes at it the same way. I wouldn't want to be between either (or both) of them and a loose ball. This team will be fun to watch.

Didnt they have some issues on the bench last season and with the coach? Were those Sr's last year and was that just an issue last season or will there be conflicts this year as well?

I agree with this, but IMO, I feel that this team will need to stay healthy. One thing that seems to have really hit this program the last few years is guys being out for long periods of time due to not being able to go. Yes all teams have this, but this program seems to have been hit more than most IMO. I think overall they are starting out ok this year with regards to this, but I did hear at least one guy has been slowed by a bum ankle already.

I can see all three of these becoming reality. One could also add Baker and Schult's extremely hard-nosed defense to the list of contributing factors.

I realize some of you CCH fans are excited about the upcoming season, but if some of these kids are as talented, fast, athletic, and good as you're hyping them up to be, why weren't they noticed last year?

All I've heard throughout this thread is a lot of "if's".

If this player does this...if that player does that.

There are a lot of unproven players around the region as a whole, but you'd think some of these guys are all stars the way they're being hyped up by a FEW. I saw the CCH Jv squad last year several times and don't remember seeing any of these names stick out.

Only time will tell I guess. Good luck to the Colonels this season.

I think this year the only proven player on the team is Thelen, atleast at the varsity level. Connelly played some last year so he is next in line but they did have a nice JV team last year and the incoming sophs are pretty good. I would expect them to give Holmes/Beechwood and Holy Cross fits in the district.

Thelen and Connelly are indeed both proven players. I've stated on here more than a few times how much I like Connelly's presence on the floor and that I think he is extremely underrated.

The senior class for the Colonels isn't very strong this year, which is why several of them didn't see much time last year.

Colonels usually have good frosh and jv teams but that hasn't translated to varsity success over the past few seasons.

At this point, I just think there's too many unproven players for the Colonels to proclaim them as a strong team in the region this year. Much like the rest of the region, they will be average, at best.

Conner, Dixie, and Boone are the only ones who really come in to this season proven.
