The way I understand it the KHSAA isn't now ruling that Mike was eligible. They are saying they can't punish the team for acting accoring to a courts ruling so Highlands gets the wins back. But as far as Mike goes if the title game was tomorrow he still wouldn't be able to play. Am I understanding this correctly?

 

No you are not understanding it correctly. If the title game was tomorrow, Mike would be playing. The final court action was that Mike was eligible.

On the other hand I don't think a team that had less points on the scoreboard should win a game unless there was an ineligible player or something illegal was done. How does Cov. Cath. get 2 wins when they didn't score a point in either game?

Congratulations. At the time I was very upset about the whole deal. Some Highlands fans (not the majority) gave Bell Co. no chance of even competing in 2004 and were very disrespectful IMO before the game. Then Bell Co. has 2 huge fumbles and otherwise dominated the game, but loses. After that you find out that 1 of their players shouldn't have been playing, it just ticks you off (especially considering he scored both TDs and played amazing).

 

But when it comes down to it I don't like seeing kids having to sit and be ineligible unless its proved they really did something wrong. Looking back on it, I hate that the boy didn't get to play in the state championship game.

You know MM did not get to play in the state champ game...but he DID get to compete during his SR season AND catch the eye of a college that paid for his education AND eventually make it to the NFL and $$$$. All thanks to a courageous decision by Coach Mueller...who did nothing more than follow the LAW...but it was under tremendous pressure.

It's too bad that it took over half a decade for this to be fixed, heck the athlete it involved has graduated college and been drafted in the NFL. It's a joke but one things for sure that Highlands team was pretty controversial with the likes of Mitchell and Nevels. There are some Highlands threads from that season that are located in BGP Classics now, ha 6 years later and it's still being discussed; good call on whoever decided that thread was a classic.
