Why was it bad coaching at the end? The plan for South Carolina was simple. They had 11 seconds and they were on the 20 yard line. Anything other than a shot at the end zone was pointless in that situation. I'm certain the plan after the timeout was to take that shot and then kick the FG if it didn't work. There was nothing wrong with the coaching, but it was a terrible decision by Garcia to throw that ball. He just dropped a couple of steps and flung it...I don't think he bothered to see what kind of coverage was down the field.

Amazingly, five of five. I keep expecting the Ole Ball Coach to pull it out, but somehow Cobb always comes open and the INT gets made!

I don't know how terrible the throw was, though it was at least not a great throw. The reality is that it was into double coverage. Everyone and their brother knew they had to go end zone, which is why the timeout was so incredibly dumb.

Okay, maybe not bad throw but bad choice of where to throw it. Kentucky had it played pretty well, although I was still expecting the Carolina receiver to pull it in off the deflection.

Great win for the Wildcats. South Carolina was the game I most wanted to win this season, so I'm happy.

By using the last timeout the defense can basically just defend the end zone. Also if there would have been another bad snap or sack South Carolina would have had no chance to kick the field goal. It was poor clock management, and a really poor throw.

It was poor clock management, and a really poor throw.

 

If any team could allow their opponent to complete a slant for a 20 yard TD knowing they only have time for one more play, it's UK. But, generally speaking, you're not getting the end zone in that situation. So, basically you'd be moving your kicker a few yards closer. However, if you're confident he can hit from 37 yards, there's no point in throwing the ball anywhere but the end zone and taking a shot at winning the game. That's my philosophy.

 

So, we see it differently. That's fine. I certainly don't think there would have been anything wrong had they done what you're saying. I just don't think there was anything wrong with what Spurrier actually did either. It's not like he inspired visions of Les Miles or Herm Edwards.

Told my brother the other day, don't be surprised if UK pulls off the upset. Now if you would have told me that UK would be down 28-10 at the half, I probably would have backed off that bold prediction. :lol:

I give UK and their coaches a lot of credit. I didn't think they had the talent to pull off big upsets this year especially with Locke out. Visor with an stupid mistake at the end.
