October 17, 201015 yr I included those because it's obvious to others that people are blaming Hartline for the loss. Everyone except you that is. Great win tonight and I feel good for Hartline. I hope it gets the fanbase off his back now and people can accept that UK can win with him at QB. Of course its obvious if thats what your agenda calls for. My favorite: Some of you guys amaze me. The Cats did not lose the game because of Hartline. You put up 35 - you're supposed to win. This only the second time in 3 years or so that the Cats have put 35 on an SEC team. They lost it because they had too many breakdowns as a TEAM. We gifted them 4 TDs. Three turnovers by 3 different people, and a horrible special teams coverage. Add to that some bad penalties, a couple of dropped first down passes and you're normally going to lose.
October 17, 201015 yr I thought it was Hartline's fault? I thought it was the OOC schedule... Of course, this thread was primed to blame Steve Brown, so who knows. It seems like there's plenty of blame to go around for a team that is now 4-3. I'll take it...with winnable games left on the schedule. This win might get the season turned around. This was huge. A loss tonight and who knows how they might have responded going forward. A win against South Carolina and Spurrier a week after they beat 'Bama has got to rejuvinate this team and give them the confidence that they can beat their upcoming opponents. The Cats have played the toughest teams on their schedule, IMO, and they nearly beat Auburn and did beat the Gamecocks.
October 17, 201015 yr Firing Steve Brown is not the answer to UK's defensive struggles. This is the same coach that the defense improved 3 straight years under. A couple of those seasons the defense carried the team. They are young this season with only 2 seniors. I think the last 2 weeks show that it isn't Brown--it is the youth and inexperience of his defense. Both weeks the opponent had found a weakness in their scouting report that they managed to exploit in the first half, both weeks the problems were addressed and the defense played fine in the second half. UK has lost 7 NFL caliber players the last 2 seasons--they simply don't have the ability to reload like some other teams do. The last 3 years Brown was praised for his work, this year everyone wants him fired? He's the same coach. Attitudes like this are why I have such a hard time dealing with a lot of other UK fans. :thumb: They've lost some really good players the last couple of years and they're playing a lot of young guys. UK just needs to stay the course and keep competing hard as a team. These guys have done a solid job so far. I don't expect a knee jerk reaction from Barnhardt, but I wish the fans would just be patient. I was really disappointed with UK's performances against Florida and Ole Miss, but they've bounced back the last games. The thing that needs to get fixed now is how they start games. They've got to come out of the gates better instead of digging a big hole. All in all, 4-3 with a win over Spurrier in Joker's first year. I'll take it. If we can finish solid, I think Joker and UK will do well going forward beyond this season.
October 17, 201015 yr 4-3 is where I thought we would be at the beginning of the season, but I thought the 4th win would be Ole Miss not SC. The SC win is much sweeter though.
October 17, 201015 yr So you just quoted a bunch of things, in which nobody blames him for a loss? And several compliment him? Brilliant. Like I said, time for a new schtick. From your quotes above: "the QB situation would have not changed the outcome of this game" "Deep passes to Matthews were money all night" "its not Hartlines fault" "The Cats did not lose the game because of Hartline" mobaar, you're dead wrong. Just admit it, & move on.
October 17, 201015 yr Posters have beat on Hartline like a red headed stepchild. Go back and read the post. I've heard/read that he couldn't play in the OVC, crap like that. Now people are wondering if he is going to get drafted. Believe me I listen to people in the crowed gripe nonstop about him while he was rolling up 340 yards and 4 td's. Did you know it was his fault Cobb slipped and feel or that he got sacked. Seriously, I think alot of fans would rather seem him fail than admit they were wrong.

I hope it gets the fanbase off his back now and people can accept that UK can win with him at QB. As thrilled as I am with the win...and as great as Hartline played...and as good as the adjustments made by the defense made...a strong case can be made that if the SC running back plays the whole game, there's a different outcome.
October 17, 201015 yr I've bashed Steve Brown, but how about giving him some credit. I know Lattimore was out for the 2nd half, but holding SC out of the endzone for the 3rd and 4th quarter was very impressive to me. Especially when you consider how bad the defense was in the 2nd half. Brown seems to make good adjusments at the half, I guess UK just doesn't have the horses on defense this year.
October 17, 201015 yr They just miss too many tackles going for a hit instead of hitting and wrapping up, it seems to me. Some of that is athleticism...very hard to get a clean hit and tackle many of the exceptional athletes in the SEC.

What if Locke had played at all? Injuries are big part of football.
October 17, 201015 yr Exactly what i was thinking KD. What if Mister Cobble was eligible...the what if game can be played for a lot of things. The fact of the matter is at times UK defense looks like they have no clue. This is frustrating and causes knee jerk reactions (fire the coach). In reality they are young and this is the year that the offense is going to have to carry the team (like the def did the last couple of years). I hope in the near future we can have a season where both our offense and defense are strong.... Great win, great second half for the CATS!
October 17, 201015 yr What if Locke had played at all? Injuries are big part of football. Point taken on Locke. Just not sure I'm ready to embrace the UK defense. Last week and this, they made great adjustments at the half. Would be nice to see them put two halves together.

Who cares? He was out and UK scored the last 21 points to win the game.

Would be nice to see them put two halves together. The defense is certainly an enigma. The past two weeks are mind boggling. It's almost the Steelers slip on their jerseys at halftime.
